so...about base building.
i tried building a new base today and after a lot of trail and error and changing plans multiple times i ended up with this abomination.

4x4 foundations with 5 stairs on them and i CAN'T remove anything because "part of the structure would not be accessible". what structure? my d!ck!

how do you deal with bethesda's utter and complete incompetence? pack up everything and move camp to unf#ck it?

it just works!

Jet and Alcohol are my recommended methods of dealing with camp building.

You will most likely have to move the camp to fix it all.

Sometimes certain items built cannot be removed. Stairs and upper floors can bug out sometimes. You could try to remove it all. But if all else fails, just move your camp ever so slightly and pay the caps price. It will store all constructed camp items (so you don't lose anything) and you can start clean.

more like calmex and alcohol.

i spent some time trying to unf#ck it but to no avail. as expected. :cozybethesda:
luckily when moving camp the game blue-printed some smaller stuff i fnished beforehand so about 30 minutes out of 2 hours building horror have been salvaged. hooray for me!

If this happens to anyone, the solution is to place new walls/floors around the structures as to allow the build system to renew/reset its layering. This happens when you camp had, at some point, its layering updated and some order in the layer was butchered. (This often happens when you got more than 1 floor as the main culprit is often the stairs).

In the example above, you got to place some floor on the 2nd floor so that the stairs can be "linked" by the floor on the 2nd floor. This should allow you to remove all, but 1 stairs. Then, you remove the floor again and, then, you should be able to remove the last stairs. For the 2-blocks-wide stairs (the one on the left on the image), I had to build some wall around it and remove them, sometimes, to make them "removable". (The walls + those stairs seems to the biggest source of issues I had with with building my CAMP.)

Check out YouTube for CAMP building ideas. Some people have come up with some really ingenuous things.

I just use the underground free shelter as mine.

One recomendation for future builders, the tip to check ppl making videos in other platforms is a good tip, but, the major things builders make, are about glitching the game (for example, a floating camp), its not the same as an exploit but bethesda didnt said nothing, so, my tip like ppl using mods and want to use them, do it/build at your own risk.

Sometime you have to move the camp to get rid of those glitches.

It was most likely the foundations on the right side with that random wire. The following is for future reference.

Foundation blocks are funny in that they are only 'grounded' in their top half, even if the bottom half is sitting in the ground.

Those blocks on the right are only held up by grounded blocks to the left. To fix it you'd start removing blocks from the right side of the screenshot.

The stairs are also part of 'holding' up those blocks. They can't be removed until all the floating, snapped foundations are removed first.

Of course all this is moot if you just move camp...

Still good advice. Shouldnt have a need to remove half the camp to remove a set of stairs.

Camp building in '76 is a logic puzzle in which logic has been removed and only serves as a measure of how long you are going to keep stubbornly trying to get the end result you desire (or whatever is close enough that you can be bothered with).

I'm wondering if the camp building system we have is not another one of those sick vault tec experiments they would run on the inhabitants to test their response.

It's those stairs-stairs will mess things up all the time, maybe blue print the entire structure will help. But stairs always mess my moves or saves up.

Same thing happened to me just last night, the staircase with pillars caused it. I reset my camp and use only 1 set with maximum stack of 2 and it's okay so far. I also tried to remove them by placing new floors with those single stairs, no shot it just made more and more irremovable stairs. Unfortunately you have to reset the camp, just re-place your camp module using pipboy in the same location that you desire. If you can, just avoid using the staircase with pillars in the future.

I’ve had issues with stairs and the vault catwalk on occasion. I have one camp where I was bridging two levels up a cliff face using those two items. When I tried to remove it and rebuild it. I couldn’t take the middle of the stairs. I couldn’t take out the catwalks. I ended up fiddling around and found two pieces. One towards the top, one towards the bottom I could take out. So I was able remove from both ends, leaving a floating stairs and catwalk in the middle. And then take it all out.
