Freezing at sign in.
Yes Verified Files. Verified Drivers. Verified network.
Its a pattern. Try signing in and it freezes at the season splash screen. Multiple clicks on the mouse bring up program has crashed close option. Choose close. Wait for MS report option to run. Run program again. Works. Next time it will lock again. Consistent pattern. Lock, Work, Lock, Work, etc.

I have seen a bunch of comments about this with no clear fix, work around, or answer as to what is going on. Any insight will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Is it the black screen freeze?
Sofia Mar 4, 2023 @ 9:17pm
Did you get it fixed?

No, It goes to the seasonal splash screen and the circles indicating activity continue to cycle for a bit and then just stop. Most of the people seem to have to fire up Task Manager to get out of it. But I found that if I tap the mouse button enough it recognizes the process is frozen and brings up the crash menu. If not for that it would just sit there doing nothing.

No. It still does it consistently. Every other time the program will run without problems. But every other alternating time it just freezes.

I've been dealing with the exact same issue for months. I ctrl+alt+delete and initiate a restart, then esc to cancel. Extremely annoying. Also seems to happen every other time.

Me also.

I get this problem as well. If you wait for the Steam popup to show before signing in, it shouldn't freeze.

It does for me. It shows up on the first splash screen. The freeze occurs on the second splash screen. But thank you for the info. More info helps.

ctrl+shift+esc brings up Task Manager (or ctrl+alt+del then selecting it if you prefer). Within Task Manager, under "options", there's a setting called "always on top". I have never understood why it's deactivated by default, but that setting lets you quit any program via Task Manager regardless of whether or not you can alt+tab. Much easier than scheduling a restart then cancelling.

I know I'm necroing, but I wanted to give some advice.

My game just started crashing. I click PLAY, it spins for a few seconds, then just stops. If I right click the game file and run it as Admin, it get a message saying, "Get an app to open this ms-gamingoverlay." Someone told me this was some type of Xbox overlay problem? Any ideas?

I'm not really sure about the overlay thing, but waiting a couple seconds before signing in after the splash screen ends seems to work pretty consistently for me.

Old Trick might still work. Try letting the first two cutscenes play then when you see the third with the destroyed bus click to sign in.

To solve the 'stuck' or 'frozen' Fallout 76 game window (Windows):
» Close Fallout 76 by clicking in the game window multiple times; if 'stuck' or 'frozen' it will be detected by Windows and a message popup will offer to "End Process", click this to close the 'frozen' Fallout 76
» Close Fallout 76 another way, by opening the Task Manager (if needed, set Task Manager as Always On Top [when Fallout76 is closed sometime] via Options>AlwaysOnTop), Right-Click 'Fallout 76' > End Task
» Re-open Fallout 76

*i do not own an XBOX sorry, so I do not know the console version of this; but try these steps as a guideline and it should work the same

Once in a while, I've had to do this more than once (twice gets it almost every time, sometimes I've had to do it three times - possibly related to server syncing/saving?). But since coming back to pop into 76 over the last few months, I have done these steps and it has worked to get me back into the game every sitting that it has occurred. Perhaps this can help some.

bevore starting any more tasks, open fallout76 and use as §any kee to press start" the spacebar - it seems it kills the memory somehow (i`d say) , so just open steam

works for me many times, but also had times to close through task manager or steam and they should fix that somehow
