Critical Hits with Automatic Weapons?

I have 2 challenges that are to deal a critical hit? How to do that?

They aren't really clear on this but if this is the challenge I think it is, you will need to get the critical hit while in VATs mode.

You have to enter vats, charge your critical meter, and activate the critical hit in vats

hit Q for VATS. A VATS line will pop up and the Critical Meter will be on the right. When it fills up (you have to shoot under VATS for that to happen), press the space bar before you shoot to use the Critical Hit. Best place is on top of one of the Whitespring buildings near the cottages. You can stay up high and work on your VAT skills.

Heavy guns are not classed as auto even if they are auto in the way they fire. Generally it is the weapons that have automatic in the name with an auto receiver. Look at the link provided above.

You can just hold down space while you are firing in Vats to activate a crit hit. No need to press it each and every time that the bar fills.

Funny as I was able to complete this challenge with my .50 cal and using vats

Ok, good to know. Turns out the wiki is wrong yet again. Nothing new there. Makes it easier to complete the challenge at least.

It says automatic "weapon" not Automatic Rifle, as the perk cards do. So there's a slight difference. But the wiki isn't correct at all points at any rate since it uses the wrong wording too if you check the Commando perk. The per reads "Automatic Rifles", but the wiki reads "Automatic Weapons" and those things are not quite the same.

Minigun qualifies for the challenge as that's what I used to complete it

i used a 50 cal i got 8 from one of the big bots like the one at the rail yard in the ash.
