Herbivore. The two biggest XP boost foods are Squirrel Stew and Cranberry Relish both even at +10% (+20% with the relevant mutation, or +25% with the mutation-boosting perk), but it's much easier to farm cranberries than it is squirrels.

The tradeoff is that there are more and bigger strength and weight-carry boosts on meats than there are on plants, so get used to buffout and psychobuff and look for mutated ferns if you go the herbivore route.

Carnivore + Good Doggy makes canned dog food worth 60% food. Canned dog food doesn't spoil and weighs very little with the food perk (on my backpack).

Also the magazine live and love 3 will give +50% to benefits of veggies. It does not say in the description but it also boosts veggie xp foods. So with herbivore, strange in numbers and the magazine cranberry relish becomes +37% xp, and brain bombs become 11.5 INT. There is no meat equivalent.

Plus cranberry meatball grinder gives a much bigger max hp buff and for a much longer duration that the meat equivalent. I can go from around 70 ish Hp to well over 100 Hp when using all the Hp boosts. Having that much extra Hp for 90 mins is great as a bloodied build.

I do use carnivore on some characters for the simplicity of eating what i kill without the need for much other resource gathering. Also carnivore has better STR, carry weight and melee damage boosts, but solely for the XP and Hp boosts herbivore is far better.

Herbivore is superior in every aspect, with carnivore having slightly better melee but worse if you do both (serum suppress to still eat meat)

I went carnivore as it was what was available to me at the time. Doubt i'll ever change it as I don't really care about the XP boost and prefer the benefits of being a carnivore.

Just for an example

Have an IRL friend, she played on xbox to like 200 or 300 or something

She came over during the last double exp event

We gifted her essentially max int gear, good weapons, a ton of plasma grenades, infinite b.mentats, a hundred live and love 3, etc (plus a good handle of serums and extra serums to negate any pre starched genes issues)

Had her show up at westtek with us she naded twice as we ran in opposite directions and cleared it. Wasn't long until she was over 100 and clearing it herself, then we had a few of the high exp events pop (eviction notice, rad rumble, we forced a few sheepsquatch)

Inside of a couple hours she was level 7xx... something between 2 and 3 including the time it took her to create a character and us to pass gear over

Now to be fair, she understood the game mechanics from her xbox time and we had given her the get perks xyz in order abc and once she hit 60-75 I don't think she opened her tab for leveling anymore after that

Herbivore is essential to that... having 37.5% exp + 11.25 int + massive other special and perks really speeds that up
