What the hell's wrong with flamer PVP builds?
I've run into a few "dedicated" pvp builds running around assaulting every workshop belonging to another player then leaving, and two of them seemed to use a similar build involving a flamer. How does it work so I can turn the tables?

The flamer seems to deal enough damage to vaporize a person in full T-51b power armor in under 2 seconds, well within the range of just killing you before you even know what's happening. Is the fire resistance perk really the only way to reduce this damage?

What mods are going on the flamer, what legendaries are usually being rolled? Does armor piercing even affect the flamer?

Besides heavy gunner, what perks/mutations are being used to give it such absurd damage output?

Most of the information I get when I search for this game is heavily outdated since Bethesda has to patch the game so much, so if there's any pvp sweatlords (respectful) who are willing to share either the flamer build, or a counter to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ would be appreciated.

Well if you pvp and you aren't dedicated for it you've already lost

I run full buffed something like 700-750 hp, 99.95%+ damage reduction from any regular source of damage,

Fire its only 83%, Poison is only 62% (And I'm NOT sold that acid from stranger = poison damage... this might be pointless for me to have), Cryo is only 53%

Flamers are good for hitting quickly at decent damage vs something a LOT of people don't build resistances for... its easy to hit 75-110 damage per tick vs players with a flamer even after the resistances. So if you are the typical 200-300 hp player you are dead.

if you have 0 fire resistance that flamer is going to hit hard, plus I've heard that fireproof doesn't actually affect flame damage from the flamer, so you pretty much need raw anti fire for it

how can you get it? mostly from the legendary card, which still only drops it to about 50% damage, meaning that pound per pound they tend to hit hard

Flamers eat dodgy ap so that source of reduction quickly can wear out if you don't have canned coffee or other instant ap regen items

I find them tickle cannons nothing I worry about,

Cryo's are more of a concern because resistance for it is hard to come by and the slow effect can be brutal

The nice thing about flamers / cryolators is that they can hit invisible (stealth boy) enemies pretty reliably for decent damage

IF they aren't using stealth, you can chew their faces off with railways or really any quick firing vats weapon (vats crits ignore armour so hit for full)

My go to is a TS FFR 15r Railway death cannon, 2200-2600 damage onto a player before they can blink (strangler heart)

A vamp flamer can make short work of a lot even in PVP, I have done this before for a friend that was getting harassed at a workshop. The damage ticks are so fast its hard to counter while keeping your health at peak levels. It's hard to see thru those flames, although I don't believe the range values on flamers are correct at all.

Some good feedback here, and knowing how bethesda games tend to be, I can believe that unless I'm exploiting every bug or trick in the meta it's going to be hard to put up a fight against any serious PVP build no matter what I do. From my own research I found people chugging duped Nuka Quantums for nearly infinite healing, so it seems that unless I dedicate a lot of time to this I might as well just steer clear of my workshop until the invader gives up and leaves.

It is resisted by poison resistance.

https://nukacrypt.com/database/json/005A7BDC

"EDID": "V94_AcidHitEffect",
"FULL": "Strangler Heart Acid Hit",
"Magic Effect Data": {
"DATA": {
"Flags": "Hostile, Detrimental, FX Persist",
"Flags 2": [],
"Base Cost": "0.000000",
"Assoc. Item": "00000000",
"Magic Skill (unused)": "00 00 00 00",
"Resist Value": "AVIF - [000002E4] <PoisonResist> "Poison Resistance"",

It is similar to, Reddit posts mostly, talking about the Auto Axe using electrical damage but not energy damage. A quick look at the Nukacrypt would show electrical = energy, just like acid = poison.

It is a valuable tool to remove doubt.

While I have the assistance of some people who know the meta, is it still possible to get a two shot explosive legendary on a gatling plasma? How do I go about getting that?

No, not possible anymore. They cannot drop and the ones that were floating around have had the explosive effect removed in the recent legacy removal patch

Bring your noob build into High Risk and see how long you last.
