Highly underrated mutation. I don't think many players use it due to not understanding how it works exactly and how strong it is.
Empath is very powerful
i'm thinking of forcing an ultimatum whenever players ask me for mutations
empath has to be in there, before they get the others
I use it for over a year and think most players (who team up) will not know about but register that they take less damage.
and you can't really blame them
it's bethesda that should create more clarity through its game-design
what if you could show some stats of your build next to your name ?
_have Empath mutation
_bodyguards full
_something something like Tank with melee
the thing is you wouldn't even need chat
we could quickly check who specializes in what
(btw payday2 just does that, in under 30 seconds you understand who is best in what they do)
how can you bond with new people if the info stays hidden
Then players got criticized if they didn't have a team-mod on :)
However, in FO 76 it is not important for veteran players, there is just nothing that takes you to the limit (maybe "Rad Rumble" or "Eviction Notice" solo) and new players who benefit from team features the most are overwhelmed by informtion anyway.
Empath by yourself on a team = large net negative
Empath from a teammate, and you not having it = huge positive
Empath from a teammate, and you also have it = minor positive
nope, the game considers the Empath-character as part of the team, hence he receives the bonus.
This is explained by Turtle in a video from 2020, jump to 9:30
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqwoKVJQ46A
There might be bugs and changes ever since, but combined with the right perk cards everything works out fine.
if ever i crash the spike in perks etc could get them killed
(it never gets explained by beth, they count on wikia folk, always has been that way)
players getting criticized is a positive
a chance to understand mid-game
but you get that new players getting kicked without knowing the reason (because there's no way except a long voice call to explain ... if they even would bother) is frustrating for both,
they probably assume the high lvls are on some powertrip, which is usually not the case
it helps nobody
personally i'd like to see different colors on names or extra icons like [vendor] [farmer] [nuker], [AFK], etc next to a player's name
if they can plaster lvls next to usernames, which btw hardly determines skill/expertise, then they can add short statuses
the avatar could be used for that also (flashes when in danger)
using the help emote is a meh
if in danger everyone should get notices by such beacon
(way in the beginning i thought the flare gun would help me get noticed by other players, in the hope someone came to the rescue... boy was i wrong lol)
simple ways to provide who's ready or not is important if no chat is available (voice chat is not always an option)
on my toon it was like this (numbers displayed in the pip-boy):
Solo on a team; +6% dmg taken.-25% damage
with another characer on a team: +8% dmg taken, -33% damage
equiped perks are Strange in numbers and Class-Freak.
(Herd Mentality Mutation should not effect this)
I count this as a net-decrease in damge taken but willing to make tests :)
right on the money
Phantom's description contradicts turtle's video, Mooman's post and my experience.
As soon as the Empath is on a team he gets a damage Reduction from the Mutation, modified by perks.
1, 2,3 or 4 Empaths on a team don't change this as the effect doesn't stack.
beth failed at its conception of how a coop should work
and underestimated their player-base
so keep on proving them wrong (no sarcasm intended)
me personally i consider the coop as an extra challenge
being a medic/backup in team i love to maximize every team member's efficiency
but most of the time when playing with randoms you have to get lucky if someone is also an empath
still a good exercise/ handicap when nobody else has it
