They still shoul do some damage on short range; most ranged wepons have "range penalty" (not expl. Energy Guns), if I remeber correct Miniguns and Shotguns are seriously effected by this: good on short distance but suck on long range.
However, Gauss Shotgun is the strongest, you can buy the plan for the Gun/ Mods for Gold-bullions from Samuel/ Foundation or Minerva (it is in her inventory 7+ 8 wich come end of March and early April).
Maybe serch on youtube "angry Turtle" if he has videos for shotguns.
They can make a big difference.
Only mod I have is no camera shake and I don't even know if it even works? I'll try removing it and see if that does anything.
Update: I removed the mod and tested to see if there was any change - still nothing. Each shot maybe takes like 2-4 pixel wide slithers of health from targets point-blank in the face.
Since I can't seem to do any actual damage I havn't invested into legendarys yet, thankfully... so no. No legendary effects.
Use Unarmed melee if you want to do up close and personal damage, or a flamer (plasma = Rifleman, regular = Heavy).
I see where your coming from by them being rubbish but I can't possibly imagine them being THIS bad I really do not think this is normal at all. I do more damage with pistols (non-automatic pipe pistols) this is THAT bad. I literally am only taking 2-4 pixel wide slithers from enemy health bars per shot - doesn't matter what I'm fighting either. Shooting at radroaches its like trying to solo Earl @.@ That's how bad the damage is.
Best builds in this game is pretty much anything with fast hits, DPS is king here. Aside from going Unyielding, but with that you don't really need a build
Once you get past 50, you have to have legendary equipment to be competitive.
They need to be used in VATS at short range. Crits are where they shine but still a long way behind commando crits.
Concentrated fire for headshot bonus, four leaf clover for crit recharge. They are ok for solo play but not much fun at events (unless you like kneecapping everything then it's fun).
bethesda (wrong b) 'fixed' the damage calculation
A shotgun used to do say 100 damage with each of its pellets
Now a shotgun does 100 damage / each of its pellets
so before 100 x 8 = 800 potential damage
now 100 / 8 per pellet = 100 potential damage if armour isn't an thing and they all hit
one of the reasons that twoshot on multi shot weapons ACTUALLY reduces the weapons damage
Uhhh I can't check right now because I'm currently in the process of reinstalling FO76 but I'm level 240 something.
While they arn't legendary - I have all the appropiate perk cards for a shotgunner build maxed out and equipped. I don't think the gun not being legendary would account for only doing like 2-4 pixel wide slithers of health per shot. Even if shotguns were bad, no gun is THAT bad. I do more damage with a pistol build than that (without using VAT's!)
Yea it seems like hits broken altogether it's not even a nerf they just don't register hits 90% of the time period. That answers my original question then I guess. Thanks guys!
