Support builds are pretty niche, and you might need to join a discord to make some buddies if that's the route you wish to go.
Most time however groups with randos are just for the XP bonus of being in a group and your unlikely to actually interact with them.
Most places don't have actual NPCs to interact with, you might see a few patrols here or there but there's very few actual towns with friendly NPCs in them.
I am a support build and do not really group up with randoms or friends. So not much use.
I know they are out there, but they're in a small patrol group. Which is normal, but they're never friendly and usually pretty stupid.
Carry lots of alcohol. Attend events and wait for someone to fall. Pick them up with a shot of courage.
Be the best St. Bernard you can be.
- NPCs still do take cover, just not as frequent as FO4
- You can have one NPC ally for your C.A.M.P. that give you buffs and sell you stuff
- Although there is still no official text chat, there is a mod for it on nexusmods [www.nexusmods.com]
Unless that was somewhere else, excluding entire Russia.
I guess just not as frequent or common as Fo4 then, makes sense.
You can have many NPC allies at camp (settler/trader) but I mean NPC ally that travel with you.
Nope, the only Ally's that travel with you are for brief periods of time for specific quest lines. Thank Todd.
Those are considered escort missions, not so much a companion.
They go with you, they talk with you, they fight with you.
How is that not a companion?
That is more like a bodyguard/escort for them. A companion follows you and does not have an objective to be dropped off somewhere.
Why settle for a human NPC when you can have a real human? Face it, Bethesda AI sucks for companions. Hook up with some real people and sally forth.
Imagine if you will, Rad Rumble with 10 players, 10 companions, and all the mobs. Lag and glitch city.
Bethesda AI is actually pretty good. Only issue is every AI is independent, meaning they do not really communicate with eachother.
(Fallout 4) Bethesda companion AI on the otherhand, is (obviously) set to follow the player, in combat they act more defensively to the players position. Where as older Fallout has their AI offense even when they're companions. They would throw grenades towards the enemy and take cover (if they can). Usually the enemy will focus on the player unless the player has companions where they may be a little more careful.
There is much potential lost with not having companions.
I have seen many games with crappy or worse AI, Fallout 4 AI is the best AI in Fallout series and a pretty good human AI overall. That is excluding vertibird AI.
Also real people are not always online, unless you're talking about random group which is boring since nobody voicechats or has a text chat.
Nor can you carry more loot if it is a real person unless you really trust them.
"Lag and glitch city" That would only be caused by Bethesda not patching glitches, besides that it would not be an issue since other Fallout games use companions. Lag is a thing that will happen, sure. In that case limit friendly AI. No Fallout game has a max of 10 AI, make it 3-5 or something.
That being said, some people have a ton of settlers on the server. So I do not think lag would be an issue, but a limit for friendly AI should be there just for balancing.
it can be difficult to explain to someone that you're being generous as an example, the other day i dropped some stimpaks and weapons and armour for a newbie near wayward (i think he was under level 20) and he didnt seem to understand and kept giving me thumbs down when i shot the ground to explain ' hey you see that bag there? pick it up' and shot at the ground to the bag. i guess i need to make my drop bag bigger or brighter because he kept thumbs down on me thinking i wanna pvp LOL after awhile he saw something and picked it up and gave me hearts and thumbs up. sigh so hard to communicate. i do notice there's an option to voice chat in game but its more to voice chat in an area so everyone in the area can hear. i didnt think about that at the time.
Something happened to me just alike that. But I did not take what they dropped not because of PVP but because I did not really want a boost/headstart. Instead I went to their barter and gave them some caps (bought stuff).
