Sentinal (great for ranged builds) or Cavalier effect: there are different opinions, some swear on it, I think for a melee build there are better effects but this is situational.

T-65 actually has better stats than the union armor. Its also around 6500 gold bullion to get all of.

Run the T-65, and get the poison resist legendary perk card.

regardless of power armor, or standard armor.. F76 has ridiculously OP Fire and Poison damage against players. So, as a melee build.. you are either going to have fire problems, or poison problems.

Overeater is a legendary effect that can spawn on legendary armor pieces, which can be obtained from killing legendary enemies, as rewards for events, or via legendary crafting. Whether you are going for a full Overeater's set or something else you will have to do farming and grinding unless you come across someone selling Overeater's armor.

if you are going for bloodied build, get full set of secret service or brotherhood recon with unyielding legendary prefix - otherwise get a vanguard prefix

thorn armor set is nice too but personally I dont like it

I use a full health melee build with Thorn armor since it provides melee bleed damage if worn in a complete set and makes you much harder to detect. With a Sneak and Escape Artist perk cards, I can sneak around Super Mutants, Ghouls, and Scorched while taking them out one at a time.

Just for fun, I use a paddle ball with a Clean Clown Outfit during the Path of Enlightenment quest; the Fireflies and Radtoads die quickly after one tap of the paddle ball because of the bleed damage. During the Waste Not daily quest, I can use a Troubleshooter's Mole Miner Gauntlet, slash the Protectrons once, then watch them collapse even though robots don't really bleed.

I am trying out a Bloodied Melee build right now. Be warned, it is much more difficult to roll Unyielding in Thorn Armor; Secret Service is much easier and I have several. I have a full set of Thorn Armor with Weapon Weight reduction, but none of it is Unyielding *with* Weapon Weight reduction. Still trying to roll that combo.......

You can get Thorn Armor plans at Vault 79 if you have completed the gold heist 'Secrets Revealed' quest.

obviously the TO is more at the beginning of the game and has some way to go for the T-65 and legendary perks.

However, the advantges of T-65 or Hellcat Power Armor are relevant in PvP but not in PvE-any kind of PA gives enough damage resistance so other features (carry-weight, Poison resistance, availability) should be considered.

For non-PA a mix of Combat Armor and Robo/ Trapper (for rad resistance) can be very useful.
Rad-Resistance is relevant to reduce damage from ghoul attacks.

If you want to roll legendary yourself go for Secret Service Armor, plans can be bought for gold-Bullions from Minerva.
