will you eventually run out of ways to get atom for free?
Iv been enjoying fallout 4 a lot recently so Iv planned on buying this game for at some point but one thing that's bothering me about this game is that it has a premium currency you can buy, I know you can do quest and other things to get atom but are there like infinite quests or will I eventually run out of ways to get atom for free?, because spending money on a game that already costs 40 dollars seem like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to me (even if the game is 72% off as of writing this)

You get atoms in intervals of 150 as seasonal rewards on top of account achievements. So theoretically no, while you are capped in what you can earn per season, there is virtually no end to being able to get atoms for free.

There isn't much to use atoms on anyways, just cosmetics and furniture/housing kits for your camp. Some people will say you can buy things like scouts banners and that it's p2w but those are single-use so I highly recommend not buying them, they give those items out for free daily.

You will run out of ways to get challenge atoms for free, they are limited and as you tick them off they are done

You will "probably" continue to get atoms seasonally (generally around 1000-1500)

The simple answer is No, but the more complete answer is more nuanced. There are a bunch of challenges that will reward you with atoms. Completing these completely will take a while, but once you do them they are gone. The seasons also reward you with atoms, and these are recurring.
So you can earn 2-3000 atoms for free from challenges(maybe a few more, I don't know the exact count), then get another 1000 or so from each season. Which isn't a lot when each PA skin is 12-1800 atoms

Now that I think about it, one of the post 100 rewards is atoms, so technically the amount you can earn per season is unlimited, but it would require a grind to get them

It is limited, IIRC a player bought the board at the start of the last season and was able to make 180 or so before the season ended hitting every challenge available all the time

Yeah, I forgot that after 100, you don't get the repeating 100 per 10,000 xp, so yes, it's limited to just daily/weekly score, but that's still significantly more than you get from just the scoreboard itself

There are usually ten atom rewards at the 1-100 range of the regular scoreboard, usually nine of 150 each and 500 at the last rank, so about 1850 atoms just from grinding out each season's scoreboard to 100, plus 100 for every 10 ranks above that. Without a repeatable score reward to help you rank quickly, though, those go slower.

I've never paid for atoms directly, but I've paid for Fallout 1st which gives you 1650 atoms each month. A lot of items are given on the seasonal scoreboard and public events, so the atom shop is not the only place to get goodies. Atoms are arguably not even the prime currency in the game. Those would be gold bullions and legendary scrips, which are used much more often and can be earned by just playing the game. I've bought tons of stuff from gold bullion vendors. I buy 6000 caps worth of gold bullions from Smiley every week. I have hundreds of legendary modules, all bought with legendary scrips. I'm not alone. Ask any players, and they all do the same. I buy atom shop items directly maybe once in a blue moon. And the atom shop has daily free stuff, sometimes goody free stuff too. Not to mention, players' vending machines have good stuff to buy too. Yes, Bethesda wants you to buy atoms, of course, because they cost real money. But I think most players get them via Fallout 1st.

As long as they add atoms to the scoreboard you will always have a way to get them. No complicated answer necessary.

It gets more complicated when you consider how many you get and how much things cost.

it's a bit of scam, as non 1st player, you'll get a a bit of atoms here and there from challenges and seasonal roadmap but not enough to "catch up" with the regular Atom shop updates where the updates bring stuff worth multiple thousand of atoms.

Yes, unless you're 12, 80% of the atomic shop should not look enticing enough to buy.
