Pepper Shaker questions

ok so I use rilfes on this toon, so of course I find a Pepper Shaker on a vendor in Nuka World. I looked it up bc I didn't know this weapon existed. it was 960 caps or so.

Is this a big gun or a shotgun? I know it's a big gun, right, but maybe shotgun perks affect it? Anyway, on to my biggest concern.

This one I have has explosive as a perk, and something else. I'll log in soon and mention what it is for sure. But the internet just told me these are the rarest versions of the Pepper Shaker out there. Why was this on the clown bot vendor in Nuka World? Is this a dupe?

Pepper shakers use both heavy gun and shotgun perks. Explosive pepper shaker is a legacy weapon and supposedly will be removed in near future.

If you bought it from a vendor it's a hacked weapon and not a legacy. Can get your account banned if you're not careful.

Using a hacked weapon is not playing the game as intended though. Problem is, you don't know whether the weapon is good or no good. But honestly buying a true legacy weapon from an NPC vendor is extremely unlikely. Not saying it couldn't happen, but it's extremely unlikely. At this point legacy weapons are ok to use and you will not be banned for it. Hacked weapons however are bannable. since there's a small number of legacy weapons available a person selling it is already extremely rare and selling it to an NPC vendor or just dropping it somewhere is just weird. There's no reason to not ask for max caps for a legacy weapon or just give it away if you dont want to have it anymore. Because stores reset and then the weapon just disappears. It's so unlikely that I say what you just got is not a legacy weapon, but a hacked weapon. And as such your account may be targetted by Bethesda when they go hunting again. I mean you could always check with Bethesda support. Not sure what they can do for you, but maybe they can look at your account and check the weapon ID.

Terrorocracy at it's best. Just use the weapon if you like and ask around if its a legit roll (if the legendary effects are straight) or not.

Even if it's a dupe you can still get banned. Why risk that?

No it can't, explosive peppershakers are 100% legitimate, as one of the very few who had one and didn't let the dupers get their hands on it their are little to no duped copies of the guns

Hmm I might want to craft one up and apply some 3 star rolls to one. I had one and got the plans for the event back then, tied it for a bit but was not really impressed by it (probably didnt have both perk cards - as in rank 1 for heavy and shotguns.)

How does it compare to the Gauss Shotgun?

You cant compare the two.

Pepper Shaker is a melee range gun. means you run full speed and kill at very close range. Then move on to the next objective. Its like fighting an "in your face" trench war sort of.

Accuracy isn't a factor with the Pepper Shaker. It's the ultimate "Spray and Pray" weapon. With VATS is can be "somewhat" accurate, but with general use, it's an area affect weapon. The magazine size makes it somewhat disappointing to me, although Quad fixes that somewhat. I've never had access to an explosive one, but they are supposed to be VERY OP.
All in all, it's a fun gimmick gun for certain occasions, but not a great mainline weapon.
