Missing Perks?
I've reached level 40 and have yet to see a single 'Lock-pick' perk. My lock-picking skill is still at zero. Is there some quest involved or is it just random getting these perks?

Strange, even between the perk packs you get for leveling up as well as the choreboard?

That's some pretty lousy luck.

Once you hit level 50, you can pick any cards you want.

Perks unlock at specific levels. The first level "Picklock" unlocks at level 5. If you take a perception level up you can select it. The only reason I can think of is that you never levelled up perception after level 5. Or you just never selected the perk even though it was in the list. There is no RNG involved. If you pick Perception after level 5 you will have the option for Picklock.

Picklock is a guaranteed option at level 5.
Expert Picklock is a guaranteed option at level 19.
Master Picklock is a guaranteed option at level 40.

But you have to actually select the cards when you level up to get them. So use your next three level ups to choose them.

Alternatively at level 50 you can use your first Legendary Perk on the one that gives you +3 Picklock & +3 Hacking.

It's important that you select perception though. The free level up perks are linked to the SPECIAL that you selected

At level 25 you can re-arrange your perk points all you wish. The amount points you have in any skill doesn't matter in terms of card selection.

Not at all. At level 25 you can re-arrange your perk points all you wish. The amount of Perception points you have doesn't matter at all in terms of card selection.
You misunderstood. When you level up below level 50 you select a SPECIAL rank. The perks you get are linked to that special. So if you want Picklock you need to select Perception. Yes, after level 25 you can rearrange SPECIAL points, but that has nothing to do with how levelling up works. After level 50 you don't select a SPECIAL rank anymore and you get to choose any perk card.

Ah, so I did misunderstand what you meant, but you're still not correct in this way either. You can choose Intelligence for example getting the point there and still pick a Perception card. I've done it. In any case it's really an irrelevant tidbit of info as what you throw your point into matters not when you can just rearrange them at any point. But yes, all Picklock cards are Perception cards.

Not entirely correct.

When you level up, you pick a SPECIAL point, and then it makes you pick a PERK card. It initially filters the cards for the SPECIAL you picked. However, you can change the filter on the PERK cards to show any of the other SPECIAL points.

You worded it better than I did!

Well you learn something new every day. Sheesh, which I had known that all that time ago. Ah well. At any rate you do need to filter to perception to see it then. Otherwise it'll just show what SPECIAL rank you selected.

I do have to say I found the level up perk card system overly confusing when I started playing. So I'm not surprised people struggle with this.

Everybody makes this mistake with their first character, or first character to 50 so don't feel bad about not knowing it.

Fun fact, when the game first dropped, you were stuck with your points you picked. So put them in the wrong place and you were screwed. Then they added it where you could move a point a level once you hit level 51. Either move a point, or pick a card.

Kids these days don't know how good they have it made.

Oh I've made that mistake with my second and third character as well. Not a biggie though. My current highest level character is level 411 which is the only one I play with now and I only ever create a new character if I need to level up quickly for the daily and don't have time to level up the other one.

Livl 25 and Perception 7. I've only got the non-improvable +1 lockpick.

ah, one of the loading screen texts must be from back then. It talks about moving a point when you level up, which has always confused me (I didn't play back then).

People whined and complained about duplicate 1 point cards. So all 1 point cards were removed from packs. They somehow thought this would do away with the "duplicate card problem." So now just receive duplicates of other cards instead.

This affects all the one point cards like Aqua Girl, Good Doggy, Woodchucker, Hacker, Lockpicking, etc.

Which also means if you have an animated version of these cards you have an extremely rare item.
