New player with question
I’m coming over from ESO. So that’s my MMO experience. I have played fallout 4 several times so the UI is somewhat familiar along with scrapping etc. I am subbed with fo1st. My question is can anybody explain the difference between the stash box and the scrap box (from sub)? I would think that stash would be kinda like banking items like guns and stuff. I can’t really find the scrap box anywhere though.

Stash box is capped at 1200 pounds max weight and can store any item you can carry. Scrap box has no limit to weight and only stores junk.

Stash box is your bank.
Scrap box is your crafting bag. You need to build the scrap box in your Camp.

While having some scrap is useful, there is nothing like crafting writs in this game.

Ahhh. Yes, I have made a camp but haven’t built the scrap box. Are items in your scrap box available at the different crafting stations? I remember I had a mod to handle that in fo4.

You know in ESO you got a subscription model that lets you store unlimited materials well yeah its just the ESO Crafting bag but, now its called a scapbox and not a crafting bag, both do the same thing unlimited crafting/building materials with no weight limit of how much you can add in it hence the unlimited and so removing all weight in your personal storage making it so crafting/building materials are not taking up your weight in your stash box what is like the ESO bank.

Stash is what everybody gets and it's capped out at 1200 "pounds". It can hold anything you want to put in it.

Scrap is broken down junk. You want to put your junk in the scrap box because it holds unlimited amounts of junk.

Now comes the "cool" part. You played FO4 and are well aware that if you were at a crafting bench that at a settlement, you could craft/repair using anything that was stored in that settlement bench, unless you had supply routes connecting your settlements.

In FO76, every crafting bench, anywhere on the map is connected to your scrap box, stash box, inventory. So you don't have to carry enough stuff on you to fix things if you are away from home. You can just go go to a bench and do your thing.

Something else nice for your stash is there are stash boxes everywhere. Every train station, every Red Rocket, and the major settlements have stash boxes, as well as every players camp or survival tent. The stash boxes are instanced to each player. I go to a stash box at a train station, and I see my stuff. You go to the same box, look in it, and see your stuff.

Lastly, when you die, you only drop the stuff in your junk tab of your inventory. That's it. nothing else. So you want to stash/store everything frequently so when you die. You aren't in danger of losing much.

As in the components and such? Yes! It doesn't matter if you have 50 wood on your person or in your STASH, or stuffed away in your SCRAPBOX; you'll be able to craft wherever you want. Your CAMP, someone else's CAMP, that irradiated and dirty chem station submerged in water over there: anything goes.

I think you will be getting an ammo box too with 1st next month so you have that to look forward to. Myself, played for years and with good inventory management, never needed the scrap box and I know I will not need the ammo box. It feels just a tiny bit closer to the old Fallout games if you have to think how to get things done efficiently rather than collect everything and dump in a box.
