After getting your gunpowder, you'll need lead I assume. You can keep an eye out for mining opportunities and events in the Ash Heap, or you could go to the Lucky Hole Mine just south of 'Fort Defiance'.
I'd rec' that you get 'Ammosmith' in AGL equipped and 'Super Duper' in LCK also so you can get much more ammo whenever you craft it yourself.
Maybe Moonshine Jamboree for acid. Cloth should be pretty easy to come by.
Of enemies, supermutants probaby drop the most gunpowder, but it's still only like 2 per mutant, and not every mutant at that.
I just search every container I see and I haven't had to craft any gunpowder on this character (level 118) yet.
The Area just north of "Top of the world" (pleseant valley?) has a lot of death raiders who carry gunpowder.
Daily OPS enemies drop Ammo for the gun the Player holds when they get killed; use Grenades or even better Molotows to tag them, still get the proper Ammo (tested for Ultracite-Microfussion-cells and got ~780 in 8 minutes).
Ammo converter: The player can produce Railwy spikes (only need steel) at the tinker's workbench, convert then into ammo-points and then buy the desired Ammo at the Ammo Converter.
Can be in another players camp and is annoying, but with someroutine doesm't take much time.
Not sure if you know but if your crafting the ammo you can also get a ton of lead at the lucky hole mine if you bring excavator powe r armor. I tend to walk out with well over 1000 lead in a single run if I get all the deposits. Though you will need acid to smelt it.
oh yes. It can end up feeling like a full time job gathering stuff for ammo. I usually use the gatling gun, especially at longer ranges, and then maybe switch to minigun when up close. The gatling gun uses a lot less ammo, and they both use 5mm.
sell purified water to bot vendors , it's 1400 a day you can spend on cloth & acid bulk's.
same goes for most materials in game , you have to much just drop it on ground or sell it , space in stash is to limited to waste it.
as a weapon minigun is bad decysion you should go for gattlingun or use it at last to get more amo with it on spec ops or the pit.
Best way to farm it is by farming cloth and acid to craft it using the relevant perks. Collision Course tends to be a quick and easy source of free cloth, and the flooded trainyard and etc can get you a useful amount of acid.
Also, if this is about feeding thirsty guns, limiting your use of weapons that chew through ammo--like opting for a gatling gun instead of a minigun--is a good way to accumulate a decent amount of ammo to occasionally whip out the thirstier ones (my being a person that doesn't like farming materials too frequently).
