If I launch it from the EXE it is usually either 30.8 or 30.9MB so that extra 0.6MB between launching in steam or not is likely the overlay and workshop stuff.
It doesn't do anything.
I've verified files 4 times.
I've rebooted
I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice.
I've update nvidia drivers (I was still running some from March so as of two days ago those were fine)
I updated motherboard drivers.
I attempted to update DirectX but it is already up to date.
I installed the DirectX June 2010 SDK as well.
.Net 3.5 is installed
I tried toggling off some settings in the Fallout76.ini but none of those seem to do anything as it appears to be hanging in that process before it even makes it to any of those settings.
I do not particularly want to reimage my machine just for this game as I do a lot of things and that is typically a full day project not to mention a week+ of getting everything back to where I want it.
I have also flushed unnecessary files. Checked registry for issues. I've checked for malware with a couple of tools.
I will be attempting a clean boot with everything shut off completely in an hour or so but short of that I am scratching my head.
I did submit a ticket to Bethesda.net with dxdiag and msinfo to which I received a response saying they needed dxdiag and msinfo to assist me. I pointed out it was already in the ticket and that I'd specifically even written about them in my initial ticket. The person clearly didn't read anything and was just following a script.
I've received a response saying it has been escalated. I have no idea how long that will take.
I was very close to done with that scoreboard track. I think maybe 4 or 5 spots to go.
I've tested some other Bethesda games like Skyrim and it launches and plays fine.
Nvidia Gforce Experience will not yet let me set any settings as it says the game needs to be run before it can access the settings and let me optimize them so launching from that is not an option.
I've also looked at setttings in Nvidia control panel.
I've looked to see if Windows Firewall had exceptions for Fallout 76.
Any ideas are welcome. I am not technically squeemish. I don't want to reimage mainly due to the time issues and the fact this is the only product I have issues with and I keep pretty close tabs on my machine.
If it can't be fixed I suspect my wife will drop Fallout 1st as she only has it so we can play together and we'll likely move onto some other game.
We'd prefer to keep playing though as on the private world it has been enjoyable. We are playing adventure so it is normal world and very tough with only a few of us but we enjoy not having to deal with PvP as that is not really our thing.
This won't do much. I have been there 2 times. After few days some guy named Jason or whoever else will just say that he will be dealing with your case, will tell you more about turning off your antivirus and adding exceptions to your antivirus and not much more.
I think it's safe to say that you won't get any help from them. They have no clue and they just follow the script until they will forward you to Microsoft support and say that they can't troubleshoot this.
So the game does not open at all? Just the process in the background? Have you tried changing it to borderless/windowed in the .ini files?
After that it was giving this weird problem. My wife found someone saying they disabled and reenabled their network and it fixed the problem. Strange since you'd think restarting the PC would do that as well.
Anyway. Instead of using DHCP I set the static IP to the same IPs the DHCP gave me. For good measure I disabled the adapter and then reenabled it.
After that the game worked. That is some strangeness. Some communication from the program about problems it is encountering would be nice.
Anyway... Resetting network adapter worked. Mine is currently static IP address assigned.
Maybe that'll help some other people.
It is working now. Was network related. However, yes prior to that I backed up the INI file somewhere and changed borderless from 1 to 0. I toggled audio enabled. I changed resolution. None of that mattered. I don't think it was even making it far enough into the program to even check any of that.
also windows did just release a update two days ago, which might have effects on some games. seemed like alot of windows 11 content patchs, something was changed in windows 10 but they didn't want to talk about it in detail. probe a security flaw issue they are trying to keep quiet.
You get an DX error if you havn't updated directx with legacy DirectX. It just add files that won't come with directx12 that are needed for dx11 games. Many games install it when you install the game, but fallout76 won't do it on steam. Its an common error if you have installed windows recently and haven't played any dx11 games for a while.
Then there are other stuff that causes the game to not work, like other programs. Some programs can cause the game to crash, most common is riva tuner or msi afterburner. Sometimes its the web browser but its very rare. Could pinpoint what program causes the game to crash by turning off all unnessery programs running in the background and check if the game launches. If so then restart PC and turn off programs one by one to pinpoint what program causes it to crash.
If it crashes when you are trying to login then its most likely a connection issue, could be a firewall that blocks the game. Should also come up and error message in game with a code. Could search for the code on google what the problem is.
There should be an file in documents\my games\fallout76 called fallout76prefs.ini try to delete it and restart the game twice. The game can crash if its something wrong with it. Don't use the config file inside the game folder, its the wrong config file.
often times a simple computer reboot will correct whatever issue is going on.
