Fix for FO76 not launching (for those that have tried everything)
Have you tried verifying your game cache, installing DirectX drivers, deleting .ini files, ect. and the game still doesn't launch?
Check if you have Interception drivers installed on your computer
I assume the game considers these drivers as cheats and prevents it from launching completely. If you try launching FO76 PTS, it informs the user that you have interception drivers and refuses to launch, unlike the main game.
  • Navigate to C:/Windows/system32/drivers on whatever drive you have Windows installed
  • Check if you have keyboard.sys and/or mouse.sys inside the folder
If you do, then to play the game you need to uninstall these drivers.

Uninstalling Interception drivers
Download https://github.com/oblitum/Interception/releases/download/v1.0.1/Interception.zip
and extract the files in a directory

Open an administrator command prompt and type the following

cd <path to the directory where you extracted the files>

then again

cd "command line installer"

Then run:

install-interception.exe /uninstall

Restart your PC and interception should be uninstalled.

Hopefully that fixes the problem for you who have tried everything to fix it.

It was working fine for me 2 days ago. I play it daily with my wife on her Fallout 1st world. Yesterday I started getting a brief spinning hourglass in windows after clicking play. No black screen. No popups. No errors. I go look in Task Manager and if I launched it from Steam it has a Fallout 76 process that is 31.5 MB in size and sits there not using any CPU, Disk, or network and doing essentially nothing. I can stop it by clicking STOP in steam or of course by End task.

If I launch it from the EXE it is usually either 30.8 or 30.9MB so that extra 0.6MB between launching in steam or not is likely the overlay and workshop stuff.

It doesn't do anything.
I've verified files 4 times.
I've rebooted
I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice.
I've update nvidia drivers (I was still running some from March so as of two days ago those were fine)
I updated motherboard drivers.
I attempted to update DirectX but it is already up to date.
I installed the DirectX June 2010 SDK as well.
.Net 3.5 is installed
I tried toggling off some settings in the Fallout76.ini but none of those seem to do anything as it appears to be hanging in that process before it even makes it to any of those settings.

I do not particularly want to reimage my machine just for this game as I do a lot of things and that is typically a full day project not to mention a week+ of getting everything back to where I want it.

I have also flushed unnecessary files. Checked registry for issues. I've checked for malware with a couple of tools.

I will be attempting a clean boot with everything shut off completely in an hour or so but short of that I am scratching my head.

I did submit a ticket to Bethesda.net with dxdiag and msinfo to which I received a response saying they needed dxdiag and msinfo to assist me. I pointed out it was already in the ticket and that I'd specifically even written about them in my initial ticket. The person clearly didn't read anything and was just following a script.

I've received a response saying it has been escalated. I have no idea how long that will take.

I was very close to done with that scoreboard track. I think maybe 4 or 5 spots to go.

I've tested some other Bethesda games like Skyrim and it launches and plays fine.

Nvidia Gforce Experience will not yet let me set any settings as it says the game needs to be run before it can access the settings and let me optimize them so launching from that is not an option.

I've also looked at setttings in Nvidia control panel.

I've looked to see if Windows Firewall had exceptions for Fallout 76.

Any ideas are welcome. I am not technically squeemish. I don't want to reimage mainly due to the time issues and the fact this is the only product I have issues with and I keep pretty close tabs on my machine.

If it can't be fixed I suspect my wife will drop Fallout 1st as she only has it so we can play together and we'll likely move onto some other game.

We'd prefer to keep playing though as on the private world it has been enjoyable. We are playing adventure so it is normal world and very tough with only a few of us but we enjoy not having to deal with PvP as that is not really our thing.

Oh I also don't have any of the intercept drivers.

"I've received a response saying it has been escalated. I have no idea how long that will take."

This won't do much. I have been there 2 times. After few days some guy named Jason or whoever else will just say that he will be dealing with your case, will tell you more about turning off your antivirus and adding exceptions to your antivirus and not much more.

I think it's safe to say that you won't get any help from them. They have no clue and they just follow the script until they will forward you to Microsoft support and say that they can't troubleshoot this.

So the game does not open at all? Just the process in the background? Have you tried changing it to borderless/windowed in the .ini files?

I just fixed mine... weird. Yesterday I did briefly unplug my network and connect it to a network device I was configuring and I changed my IP. When I was done I connected back to my network with DHCP and it gave me the last octet .187 IP address.

After that it was giving this weird problem. My wife found someone saying they disabled and reenabled their network and it fixed the problem. Strange since you'd think restarting the PC would do that as well.

Anyway. Instead of using DHCP I set the static IP to the same IPs the DHCP gave me. For good measure I disabled the adapter and then reenabled it.

After that the game worked. That is some strangeness. Some communication from the program about problems it is encountering would be nice.

Anyway... Resetting network adapter worked. Mine is currently static IP address assigned.

Maybe that'll help some other people.

It is working now. Was network related. However, yes prior to that I backed up the INI file somewhere and changed borderless from 1 to 0. I toggled audio enabled. I changed resolution. None of that mattered. I don't think it was even making it far enough into the program to even check any of that.

Nice! That's great news you managed to fix it. Have fun playing and let's hope it will keep running without any further issues.

ive had the random ip disconnect bug as well it happens often, just restart your pc, sometimes my whole router goes out unless i turn off the pc, its something with microsoft and windows 10 not sure.

also windows did just release a update two days ago, which might have effects on some games. seemed like alot of windows 11 content patchs, something was changed in windows 10 but they didn't want to talk about it in detail. probe a security flaw issue they are trying to keep quiet.

There can be multiple reasons why the game won't launch, this is just one of them. If you have this problem, then it should be a error message popup when you start the game saying so. Starting the game from the game folder instead of steam will show the error message.

You get an DX error if you havn't updated directx with legacy DirectX. It just add files that won't come with directx12 that are needed for dx11 games. Many games install it when you install the game, but fallout76 won't do it on steam. Its an common error if you have installed windows recently and haven't played any dx11 games for a while.

Then there are other stuff that causes the game to not work, like other programs. Some programs can cause the game to crash, most common is riva tuner or msi afterburner. Sometimes its the web browser but its very rare. Could pinpoint what program causes the game to crash by turning off all unnessery programs running in the background and check if the game launches. If so then restart PC and turn off programs one by one to pinpoint what program causes it to crash.

If it crashes when you are trying to login then its most likely a connection issue, could be a firewall that blocks the game. Should also come up and error message in game with a code. Could search for the code on google what the problem is.

There should be an file in documents\my games\fallout76 called fallout76prefs.ini try to delete it and restart the game twice. The game can crash if its something wrong with it. Don't use the config file inside the game folder, its the wrong config file.

what i experience is the game disconnecting wifi while playing it, usally during large events it happens the most often. game works, then suddenly the ip goes out, router still running other computers on the system work, but this game toasts the pc ip address, occasionally have to reset the router, as it effects the whole network.

often times a simple computer reboot will correct whatever issue is going on.

Maybe its a bit off-topic, but you know steam limits your bandwith...? just uncheck the option in steam/settings/download/ "Throttle downloads while streaming" in theory the option only works when you are in remote play, but its false (at least for me) had big issues and when uchecked it, game runs smoth as hell.

exactly you gotta adjust your steam settings, that is the number one issue with the game not running corretly
zephyrillo 2022 年 11 月 22 日 上午 9:22
I run this game on a Rysen 3 with a 4Gb Rx580 AMD card with no problem on high settings, If you really have tried everything it sounds to me there is some background program using too much disk power or processing power. I just don't think it is your computer system when my low end system does fine, It's some app or program .interfering. It should be found in the task manager monitoring.
