The shaders were broken with The Pitt update.

I remember reading something about the sky reflections causing the over saturation.

You could try edit the Fallout76prefs.ini under a sky enlighten setting (sorry don't remember the exact line).

It'll darken everything but it may be what you want.

i tried that but it didnt seem to change anything
i tired a couple things but the only thing that made it a little bit better (not much tho) was setting lighting quality down to medium ... weirdly enough

man i remember this game having vivid colors and all
now i come back 2 years later and it looks like washed out garbage :/

so they messed up the shaders eh? any rumors on a fix coming some time in the future?

when you edit the text files set them to read only, after you save the text file right click and go to properties, make sure read only is checked, games are known for over-writing the files as soon as you start them up, but read only prevents that

nah i tested it and it kept the changes
still couldnt fix it
the lighting in this game is just broken as far as im concerned
stuff is just turning white when light shines on it
eye adaptation is out of control
i also noticed that nothing is wet or shiny anymore - even if it rains
it feels like a really bad HDR mode forced upon a SDR screen - i dunno

i seriously hope some of this is fixed in the patch coming on the 25th because this is too distracting for me

really frustrating, since it was just fine 2 years ago :/

I use Nvidia filters in pretty much every game to "enhance" to my liking.

@Drukaris & others: Did you find a fix for the washed out bright graphics yet? As you say it used to be good and after the Pitt update it seems broken. I did reset everything but dark areas still look terrible, as if the gamma level was raised. When the shiny wet textures were removed that did break the dark areas? Thanks.

alot of driver updates happened as well update your graphics drivers, also as for the readonly on the documents fallout folder, take read only off its the only way to update the settings it has been auto readonly and reapplys itself every update, this might be the major issue your facing.

My drivers are all up to date and I have the default ini settings. I did also "turn the system off and on again". ;-)

Especially in the Mire region at night it looks like textures are missing and there is a white layer covering the environment as well as NPCs and creatures.

I recall this sometimes happened in the past pre PITT update when loading into a "new" world area e.g. your CAMP for the first time. While the CAMP objects where loading and building up more and more texture layers (?) where loaded as well and composed the final look.

I am on PC Win 10 with a NVIDIA card. FO76 PITT update did break it back then. I saw a few discussions here and on Reddit regarding this and am just wondering if it was solved for anyone having the issues. Thanks.

i dont think its ever gonna be fixed, at this point its just how the game looks

honestly baffling how few people even notice or care about it or how some actually defend this broken mess - "nah bruh, just looks different, more realsitic - i prefer it"

I honestly can't tell day from night most of the time. I've played with all the setting and nothing much helps. As it is I can't see any reason to use a NV scope.

Game looked like crap on release, it still does. Try any other open world game other than the bethesda engine and you'll see the difference.

i dunno the colors i see are pretty vibrant, in world back drops, the issues seem to be close up gamma issues on objects and of course night time has always looked like day time with very little differnce, the only time it looks like night is when your in deep tree cover, for example the mire, might be all the radioactive glow that lights up the sky.
