The game doesn't get to launch after PITT update. No errors, no game window.
Short story:

if when you click "Play", you see that steam attempts to launch the game but nothing happens and the button "Play" becomes available again, or if you click "Play" and you see a black window pop up for a split second but the game doesn't launch -

---the only solution is to reinstall windows. Bethesda confirmed this.---

The long story:

when clicky-cliking the "Play" button, i see that steam tries to launch the game, but about 5 seconds later it changes back from "Stop" to "Play", so the game can't launch properly. Anyone else with this issue? Anyone has a solution?
Verifying game didn't help. I have no modifications to the game's ini files.

don't know if system info helps or not, but here it is:
i7-10700k - 5ghz
RTX 3080
32 GB RAM
all driver's updated.
Windows 11.

tried to download from anew to ssd and hdd.
tried deleting settings, hell, entire folder in Documents/my games/fallout 76, so that it automatically creates it back when launching, yet it didn't help.
tried to fps limit the game in nvidia settings to 60 fps.
tried to run as admin and with all sorts of compatibilities. fullscreen and windowed.
tried use nvidia to automatically optimize the settings, and then tried to do it myself. no luck.

Was able to create a ticket at Bethesda's support page, they're escalating the ticket to specialized team, whatever this means.

But for now, this game is a brick. There is nothing that can be done on average consumer's end to launch it.

P.S. please do not post your own, unrelated problem in this discussion. Here we're looking for solution on one specific problem, not all of them at once.
i'm gonna be marking unrelated comments with Michelangelo from now on.

alright people, i'm just going to reinstall windows. Advanced support team takes their sweat time, up to 26 hrs to suggest one solution at a time. Getting bored.
From my understanding so far there are two possibilities.

1 - at one point we all installed a software that didn't exactly uninstall itself fully, and it may still somehow affect the access of Fallout 76 to RAM, to memory. you can see that this is the issue by checking your Event Viewer

"Faulting application name: Fallout76.exe, version: 1.7.0.22, time stamp: 0x630c1f6f
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000000000000000"

the error code refers to that memory access problem. i was unable to find out what is causing it or how to resolve this.

2 - Fallout 76 is conflicting with other software installed on our computers. software that somehow keeps itself active even when performing clean boot. i'll find out if that's the issue when i reinstall windows and install all of my things back.

Either case, this shouldn't be an issue at all. i have no other game that's behaving this way except Fallout 76. besides, the game worked fine before the update. and this advanced support team isn't even trying to back-trace the issue based on what they changed inside the game with the PITT update, they're just suggesting your regular troubleshooting steps that they know of. they're not getting familiar with your specific case, just copy pasting their solutions, and doing so ridiculously slow.
at one point, they told me this -

"Please understand that Customer Support are not the development team and we need to ensure all of the troubleshooting we have to provide has been attempted. If all if is attempted and the issue is persisting it will need to be bug reported to see if what is causing it can be identified and addressed in an update for the game."

so they say that they need to attempt all troubleshootings before they confirm this is a bug to issue an update, but they give you one suggestion every 12-24 hours and expect that i will stay with them throughout the entire process, following their orders and pretty much doing their job for them, at no cost. that's a good one, advanced support team, good one. i haven't been able to play the game for 7 days. i've had enough.

To me, this is very clear that this is an error on developer's side that i'm just supposed to deal with. thanks Bethesda for taking a good 8 hours of my time trying to troubleshoot this, excluding time to reinstall windows.

Bethesda finally responded after 58 hours of wait time during which i already reinstalled windows and played the game.

"Greetings!

My name is Traci from the advanced team and I would be happy to assist you today!

I sincerely apologize for the delay in getting back to you. We received a large amount of tickets recently and are trying our best to get through them.

I am sorry to hear that the game is still failing to launch. After review, it appears we have exhausted all of the troubleshooting we have available on our end. Please be aware that these issues are usually due to a system side error. We typically see these issues pop up after a major game update because certain underlying system issues can become more evident after changes have been made. This is not something we can typically resolve on our end. It can also be hard to identify the exact cause as every system is different and the specific error can vary.

With that said, I do have confirmation that other players have managed to resolve this issue by reinstalling windows. I understand that this is not an ideal solution, but it is a last resort that can help resolve any errors that may be lingering in the system. If you do decide to give this a try, we advise reaching out to Microsoft Support to ensure it is done safely and that no data is lost. Please feel free to let us know the results as well.

Thank you,
Traci
Bethesda Customer Support"

So yeah, i guess if you're having the issue where the game doesn't get to the point of launching the game window, the only solution is to re-install windows, Bethesda confirmed... What a cluster.

What happen if you open the game from the game folder instead of steam? Might get an error popup then if something is wrong.
steam\steamapps\common\fallout76

also you can try to install all Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes. you can download it from https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/ . this has worked for a friend.

i'm still waiting for their further assistance.

"Greetings!

Thank you for contacting the Bethesda Customer Support Team.

This is Ben from the advanced support team! I understand you are having trouble launching Fallout 76 after the most recent update. One troubleshooting step we can try is to launch the game after performing a clean boot of your system. When performing the clean boot make sure to leave the Steam Client Service enabled.

Customers who are troubleshooting issues with running the game and who would like to perform a clean boot of their PCs should follow the instructions on the Microsoft web site: http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

Please note that before closing the MSConfig tool, you may need to click on the "Startup" tab and disable startup programs, depending on which version of Windows you are using.

Please be aware that many anti-virus software packages will not be disabled by the clean boot and may still be active and blocking the game

We still advise customers to turn off anti-virus software manually after the clean boot in order to make sure that it is not the source of the issue with running the game. Customers should remember to turn their anti-virus software back on as soon as they have finished troubleshooting.

Let us know your results and our team will review and continue troubleshooting as needed.

Thank you,
Ben

I've got the same issue.. however in event viewer I was able to find out that the error code is Exception code: 0xc0000005

I searched it up and it seems like a memory issue..
I've tried everything and nothing works.. sent a support ticket and everything they sent does not work either.

I think they are reading this thread and sending us our own advice. Here's my latest reply:
Greetings!

Thank you for contacting the Bethesda Customer Support Team.

This is Ben from the advanced support team again! Another troubleshooting step we can try is to try launching the game after uninstalling the most recent Windows update. To uninstall Windows updates follow the instructions below:

Click Start then select "Settings"
Select "Windows Update" in the left panel
Select "Update History" then select "Uninstall Updates"
Select the most recent update which should be from 9/13 and then select "Uninstall"

Let us know your results and our team will review and continue troubleshooting as needed.

Thank you,
Ben
