The electrical absorption perk is incredible, if you're a power armor user. I can recharge whole stacks of fusion cores to max in minutes just by letting robots shoot me. My favorite spot is the tygart water treatment plant, and let the little commie-bots just zap me. Protrectrons are great too, as they can shoot lasers out of both hands (the double shots hitting almost simultaneously seems to trigger the absorption more often).
I can re-charge all the cores I use up, I can recharge those depleted cores you find in reactors and power armor frames, and I even find depleted cores left as junk by other players in containers around train stations. If I'm in a good mood, I even swap out the depleted cores for fully charged cores, since I can just charge up the depleted ones later on.
This is obviously most effective in areas where enemies are closely grouped.
This makes me really hyped for Power Armor. I'm level 30 and have yet to even get a full suit on yet, so I'm glad that I can get a steady supply of fusion cores without having to do all sorts of weird farming stuff, this is awesome!
Oh yeah, it is. Even on the first level of the perk, which you can choose at 50, will still recharge fusion cores. Just takes longer... Once you get the perk maxed, most energy weapons are a joke. And one of my favorite weapons is a gatling laser, which uses fusion cores as ammo. So not only recharging the batteries that run power armor (fusion cores) but recharging _ammo_ for the gatling lasers. Just make sure to never run a core to zero. I swap out fusion cores on the gatling lasers once it's down to like 5-10% to be on the safe side.
oh, if I forgot to mention it _heals_ you too. When the recharge procs, it triggers a burst of healing. I call the assaultron eyebeams "tickle rays". I actually runs TOWARDS the eye beam, trying to get hit, because that's going to instantly top off my core to max. Apparently the assultron eyebeam is a series of small continuous attacks, like a mini-gun bullets, so it will trigger the re-charge/healing almost instantly (rolls on every single "hit" until it's triggered), over and over and over. Works during the rogue assaulttron event too, but that mofo hits a lot harder, so it's a little dicier to use there. It's damage will top the healing, so it helps you survive, but you don't want to just stand in it's eyebeam like you're sunbathing.
Never waste nuclear materials trying to craft fusion cores, save those for power armor upgrades and other things.
