Best perks for gauss rifle?
I'm running a covert mr sandman rifleman build for now and I'm liking the damage with a juggernaut gauss rifle, but I'm really hoping to get a better roll when I get a lot more legendary mods.

What's the best perks for gauss right now?

If I understood it 2 shot doesnt actually doubble the damage so I'm wondering if instigator is better? But I read that mobs dont actually spawn with full health all that often so idk.l what to look for.

Legendary, for a gauss rifle, personally I would either go instigating or anti amour, both my riflemen have instigating, but one only has a one star weapons, so sooner or later will re roll it, though I am thinking of going for a instigating rail way instead. Though if you do I would not go for an explosive one, as that could damage enemies close by rendering your first shot on them not affected by the instigating effect.

i'm interested myself

TS does indeed not do double damage
it's an extra 50% on top i believe

i'd try rolling a bloodied with vats crits
unless you don't want the whole bloodied theme

i'm wondering if the charging on a quad finally has some worthwhile effect...

Best perks would be essentialy to use a Stealth Commando build and substitute the Commando perk cards with the rifleman perk cards.

Best Legendary effects would be Explosive and Weight Reduction or Reload Speed (imo).

I"m normally a major fan of anti-armour but I did have one with instigating once and it was the only halfway decent sniper weapon I'd had in a while (was my go-to till over 50), haven't tried a stealth sandman build myself but it sounds like a good match.

Gauss rifles are not auto rifles, commando is worthless with them.

TS is more like 25% extra damage it dosnt get the benefits of perks over-all the 2nd shot among other things so i think its basicly just 20-25% extra damage.
Juggernaut is better damage + its recoil and other things gets effected

two shot is best when paired with explosive on a big gun or fast firing weapon

does demo expert not help with gauss weapons or is it just for the explosion the projectile gives off?

If the weapon has no explosion attribute, be it explosive by nature or by legendary affix, no, you get no benefit.

I personally enjoy the Anti-Armor and +50% crit effects on my gauss rifle, absolute shreds normal mobs and takes down HP of bosses faster than you think, especially with the overdrive chem

If you aren't one-shotting stuff you're doing it wrong.

Instigating, with a sneaky sniper headshot is what ya want.
therussmeister Oct 31, 2022 @ 9:57am
Instigating gauss, with sneak buffs will one-shot a lot of enemies. Great for sniping. I just wish I had a suppressor for mine,
Mooman Oct 31, 2022 @ 10:24am
Instigating with a Gauss Rifle or any explosive weapon is only good against 1 target. The splash damage will usually hit nearby mobs removing any benefit against them. Gauss cannot roll the explosive effect, it is a legacy and not that good.

Two shot is 25% more damage divided into 2 pellets for 62.5% damage per pellet. No issue in VATS but free aim if pellets miss you lose DPS.

Juggernaut... this is a terrible effect. It is 25% at >90% health but loses damage every 5% health loss. The irony is that adrenal reaction mutation is better after around 80% health. The only way this could be good is you never take damage (stealth) or melee and tick blood drink that has health steal.

Any of the 50% effects are good, Aristocats, Junkies or Anti Armour, even Nocturnal may be good if you play the Sandman way. Second star I'd aim for crit damage, faster fire rate is useless for charged shots. Third star faster reload or weight reduction if you don't have weapon weight reduction armour.

But really you can only use what Rngesus decides you can have. Roll a few different weapons and try them out is only way to know what will work for you.
