Is the Gatling Gun still best All-Around Heavy Gun?
Hello All

After 10+ months away I've come back to playing and trying to catch up on builds, whats new, best, perks, buns, armor, etc...

Last year it seemed opinions on Heavy Guns ranged all over the place....Mini ok but chewed thru ammo....50 cal great and solid but ammo expensive....Laser great damage but too expensive with Fusion Cores...and Gatling Guns somehow even a plain-jane model were considered Best All-Around.....has that changed any?

I'm just seeing more and more in Power Armor wielding various Heavy Guns than before outside The Blast Zone so I've been looking to upgrade and re-do my Armor Build. Thanks...

I just want something best for Assaultrons and crap. It's like nothing I have will take those out, or at least good enough. I don't want to haul around gatling guns.

My only choice has been to use a shot gun with explosive rounds and down their legs and then spam ammo to finish them off.

I like using an automatic split beam laser rifle to knock out their legs with the cripple perk in luck(if I bother doing that at all) as most of the builds I play run melee of some sort, I often just opt to simply kill them, they're stationary once they decide to fire their beam, so you just circle behind them, you have plenty of time, and as the beam is the only dangerous bit to them, they're rather harmless. Alternatively, if you're in power armour, just tank it, nothing hurts you in power armour(it could probably use some nerfing).

But yea, an automatic split beam laser rifle with the cripple perk will cripple targets much quicker then any other weapon simply due to the fire rate, shotguns have a similar perk but they don't reach anywhere near the same fire rate and have the same % chance(I believe not looking at the game at the moment).

Well, I actually apparently do more damage with a lever action to their legs as of today. lol I started doing that while prone and they're done for.

So I think I finally figured my go to for those things. I just never used the lever action on them is why I never knew how effective it was. I always use it for everything else but them.

There's a perk in luck that gives a set chance to instantly cripple a limb with a rifle, and each beam from a split beam gets it's own separate chance, but if a lever action works for you, then go for it :)

Gatlin gun is the best casual weapon for farming and regular play.

It's not great for events, however. Swap it out for something else.

Target the legs. If you target an assaultron in the places that normally bring down other robots, it's going to laugh at you and burn you to cinders. The legs take decent damage and also knocks them to the ground, removing their mobility and most of their fighting capability.

If you want an even better cheat code for assaultrons, use power armor and take the legendary perk Energy Absorption. It'll heal just as much as it damages you, but usually heals more. Power armor with this perk pretty much removes energy damage as a threat across the board.

I keep my napalm flamethrower handy for enemies like that. Nothing can stand against it, even the scorched queen. The downside is that it is not a ranged weapon, need to get close. It is an AOE weapon and will take down several at once.

that's one I'd like to get ahold of!

Gattling laser with charged barrel is quite good now after they fixed the energy weapon damage, similar damage to gatling gun. But overall my favorite is minigun, 50cal and gauss minigun.

Gatling gun was my favorite before, but I like the minigun more now. Never run out of ammo for it either as long I use different weapons from time to time.

All weapons are bloodied explosive or speed for energy weapons.

Foundations Vengeance is also easily obtainable from Eviction Notice... and it's a Bloodied Explosive minigun. Makes it a nice choice.

Imma chargin' mah lazors!! /dragonball gif

Yeah. Mini gun is pretty fun. I'm surprised they left the shredder barrel alone. Running around being able to quite literally bulldoze everything is kind of silly. With the basher perk, just run into a pack of mobs and watch them turn into mist. Don't even need to stop. Keep running into stuff.

The .50 caliber was my go to at first, but they definitely did something to the spread on it. The spread on it is fairly subpar, even with ironsights. The spread was never as good as something like the LMG but it wasn't too far off. It's still good for large bosses, but I hate using it for regular content.

No, this will be the best:

It looks like an industrial drill; shredding minigun will still be king though.

I recently picked up a Gatling Laser with a 50% Bash/melee perk along with two other perks. I almost tossed it but remember seeing another post on using these as a bash/melee...I'm curious as to the build and how to....

Thanks for saying something on the .50 Cal Spread...I've got a Medic's 50 cal I took to that Radium Defend and noticed right away the spread was awful at even a mid-range distance even with VATS. Until I got what I'd say...Shotgun Range...it then started the shred but I was one against two with Mini-guns and wasn't pretty. Normal Gatling was slower but more accurate. I'll take out my Gatling Plasma next and see....

you probably mean the minigun shredder there
the minigun has a shredder mod
and without bullets (5 mm) + Anti-Armor or Vampire + Bashing damage it is a ballbreaker in game

Medic works with VATS Crit shots only.
a 50 cal would be not effective imo
a medic gatt gun seems to be the perfect choice in heavy for the medic legendary prefix
don't confuse it with vampire!
vamp only heals you no matter distance
medic requires vat crit shots and being inside a 10 building block radius in order to heal yourself and your teammembers (who also have to be in that radius)

either way medic is very demanding on perk card set
LCK is the most important special here (pure focus on VATS crit and when in close corridors)

the medic prefix imo works the best with a shogun explosive
(less AP demand /pellets heal in harmony )

LOL... best is a mini-gun shredder, with no ammo. It's like a chainsaw.

No, this will be the best:

What is it? ...I don't know. It's sitting on a bench in the PTS. You can't pick it up (the prompt is for the screwdriver next to it) and it doesn't seem to drop from the events (what was shown).

You can see it has the heavy weapon holding points. Imagine a Minigun Shredder without the Minigun part. No unwanted ammo in loot all, no heavy mods, just pure drill action.

Now I've got everyone's hopes up... lets just pray it is a future weapon.
not cool, bruh
