Ammo can be farm in daily ops and expedition from fallen enemy (except for core) to help you stock up.
Yes. Gatling Gun is the best all-rounder.
A decent Gatling Cannon out classes the Plasma Caster enormously in DPS, and the obvious boon of not needing to reload every twenty shots. I have used the Plasma Caster extensively but still prefer my Gatling Cannon over it.
I find carrying around and restocking cores annoying. I usually reach for my Flamer if I need massive dps and firepower (my non-legacy one). However, a decent ultracite gatling laser is pretty useful if you don't mind farming cores.
Bruh, OP talking about Gatling gun not Gatling laser.
If you have the time for it, and can move around enough to reload.. Have fun.
However I find the Gauss Minigun to be my 'Oh crap!' gun in many events.
High dps, natural splash damage (explosive), and sounds good. It's only downside is heavy ammo and the constant need to collect steel/lead for crafting (recycle those cans people).
But... really any heavy with complimentary legendary rolls can do better than others without. For example I sometimes run a crit damage VATS reduced Pepper Shaker with the standard barrel. It works due to low fire rate and can crit hard increasing the effective dps vs. other guns.
No, this will be the best:

What is it? ...I don't know. It's sitting on a bench in the PTS. You can't pick it up (the prompt is for the screwdriver next to it) and it doesn't seem to drop from the events (what was shown).
You can see it has the heavy weapon holding points. Imagine a Minigun Shredder without the Minigun part. No unwanted ammo in loot all, no heavy mods, just pure drill action.
Now I've got everyone's hopes up... lets just pray it is a future weapon.
