How does melee builds fights the Scorchbeast?
Like, there is that scripted fight against the one flying around the giant mining excavator which never lands anywhere on top of the tower. How can melee builds kill it?

Design flaw?

I see.
I feel like they should make non explosive throwing weapons count as melee weapons instead, or at least make its damage scale with the melee perks. Or alternatively create a new perk exclusively to turn them into that. This would help melee users to handle situations like this a lot better. And as a bonus it would give more utility for this class of item as well.

Riflemen/Commandos can target a wing and force it to land with the Tormentor perk.

But really, as a melee character, the reason why the SBs don't land is because they're afraid of your raw Chad energy.

Tomahawk (or meat cleaver, sheepsquatch shard, etc) or a nuka/plasma grenade gets em, but usually when they can't hit you for long enough they'll land on their own. *Be sure to apply the relevant grenade-perception (fire in the hole) perk for an aiming arrow and boosted distance on all thrown weapons. Also, their are some objects you can climb on in stealth to smack em a few times or jump after em and nail em at least once. Honestly it's more comical that anything to see purely melee against a Scorchy Bat, so I'm always sure to throw up plenty of grognak-ax-shaking emotes... that's the most important part, actually.

Sometimes I'll just adopt one because I'm fairly immune to poison/ice/radiation and use it as my air support as I roam the wastes... be careful if you try this though, sometimes they just convert enemies to scorched instead of softening em up for you. Also their attention span is worse than my own, so they might end up flying off to get tragically butchered by a bunch of robos... bye, little guy... we were friends for a minute...
longer than my last camp pet, at least.

agree, just got plasted by a gattling on a level 31 and instant died, everything is basicly weak, took me 25+ bullets to kill a level 31 blood eagle, or 3 swings with a sledgehammer.

You have to stand still in an open location. Scorchbeasts use the targeted player location to land (vertibird animation btw), even SBQ.

If you move too much you change the landing coordinates and the game doesn't do things quickly enough to recalculate.

Stand still, weather a few sonic blasts (fireproof and 7% explosive armour helps) and the Scorchbeast will eventually land at your feet.

Only a few situations they won't land due to having the "It's a trap" code. You can tell these as they'll do a quick turn in the air but slide backwards instead of landing. Those will only land by crippling a wing.
