They can be crafted with stuff from nuke zones (time consuming), or you can take over workshops at any of the power plants and power up the machine that makes them. The second option might involve PvP though.

Power plants like Monongah usually have a Fusion Core resource miner. Requires 100 ppwer I think. Also, you can build cores at a tinker bench. Check there for requirements (needs nuclear flora found in blast zones after nuke hits. Make sure you have power armor/rad-x/radaway while collecting the glowing plants.

google where to find fusion cores all the generaters around the game have one you can take they will be 50 t0 90 % also make shure you have the perk card loaded that double the cores life if you go up to a generator an the core is gone it just means someone beat you to it , also use the energy ammo perk card that makes them weight nothing, i currently have a 130 or 150 on me at all times because i use them to make prime ammo, they are every where so look every where, but the map will help you out, thats how i started, good luck, also take the ones from the armor frame you run across, they are only 25% but the perk card doubles them to 50%

I usually craft gatling lasers with super duper equiped, that also gives you cores for each one

You can find fusion reactors in the world, not in a workshop, that has a core. If you get to know the location of those reactors then you can farm them.

Second option is by far the best way to farm them.

A strong criticism. I shift from power armor and back and they are hard to come by when you want to start using power armor again and way too heavy to store when you are not spending cards for a power armor build.
When I'm using power armour for an extended period of time, I keep two or three on me and grab more from my stash when necessary. It sounds like a pain but it's rare that I run out of cores before coming across a stash box somewhere.

The perk that recharges cores is totally worth it, but ya if you share server .. good luck finding them.

Yeah, electrical absorption legendary perk will allow you to recharge fusion cores from energy weapons, but only if you're in power armor. Even a single level of this perk is useful, higher levels of the perk just make it quicker. Also heals you when it procs too, and protects you from assaultron eyebeams (which I now call tickle rays).

I have that perk, and that means all the 25% charge fusion cores I find in power armor and in reactors can be charged up to 100%. Also means I have endless ammo for gatling lasers too. I even find nearly depleted cores in the suitcases around public places (left by other players). If I'm in a good mood, I actually swap my full 100% cores for the empty ones. Hopefully make some new players day when they find full fusion cores.

Crafting fusion cores from flux is an incredible waste of flux. Wow, just so many more uses for it then that.

This. One of the best perks there is if you plan on using power armor regularly. Just go to Watoga and aggro the bots and boom fusion cores charged lol

Tygart water treatment plant is also a good "refuelling" spot. Just let the commie spider bots shoot you for a bit.

Or... just wait for The Pitt in September and buy, with real money, the Fusion Core Recharger in The Pitt Recruitment bundle...
