the only way that worked before was to move my camp, and scrap everything i usually lose a significant amount of building materials, at least it did unless they changed anything recently
Only way to get around are
1. Block your ally from moving around your camp, also give them some interactive objects near their connected object, so they stop taking others objects in your camp. It still can happen but, by putting some interactive objects near their connected object you are decreasing the chances of the AI wanting to use something you want to use around your camp as they will try to use the nearest things. Rarely they will walk far bit to get to the object they want to use so this is why this method works to keep them at bay.
Or move your ally object that they are connected to further away in you camp so its no longer that near the workbenches is also another option.
I've got fed up of the AI opening all my doors in my buildings and never closing them i now days tend to put them in cages and yes give them like two-three objects to use like a chair or a bed just something they will use other then what i would like to use.
2. Get rid of them for the time being by removeing their connected object eaither in store or fully destoryed and once removed you will now be allowed not only to use it but can move it without the problem. The random RNG trader npc that come to your camp can also have the same results but, unlike the ally you can't really get rid of them easy i believe a sever hop is the only way or wait another day for them not to be there is the only way to remove those.
Done problem should be solved.
No need for a screen-shot.
Let me guess the exact scenario:
The tinker bench is all by its lonesome -not to near a wall or other objects and you go to interact with it -to either move, modify or remove it and get the message: "1 or more of the attached devices are in use." Well in this your not alone. It happens to me ALOT when I build a base -well complexes that max the build budget -maybe that plays a part... I digress -though... Try the below:
1. If you have not yet made a second base do so -just no where near your first one. Like near one of the other vaults and make it active then wait about a minute then switch back to the base with the issue. It should be clear to be able to be moved.
2. If that does't work go about double the distance from your bases build range zone. Bring up the pip that shows MOVE BASE and put down the CAMP ONLY! -DON'T BUILD THERE! Once you do that go back to the bases primary spot -mark it if you need to first and move the CAMP device back where it was. Activate the build menu and look under the blueprints your whole base should be stored use the plan to restore your base. If all goes well your base should be fixed.
I have built THREE BASES -exhausting the build limit multiple times and I may work on starting a fourth but will need to go to the Atom store.
Well to me it does. Been playing for 3 years with hardly no breaks and in the eairly days of my camp builds aka when i was noob around lvl 10-35 and still using weak wooden walls as i had no other options at the time, I've had this exact problem 3 years ago happen to me. Well apart from the booted from sever while using said workbench that seems to always be in uses never had that tho.
It took me a quite bit few days to work it out myself of what was causing these problems as i couldn't understanding why am not allowed to a use a workbench, let alone scrap or well do anything with it when clearly no one is on it let alone near it.
It only started to click for me when i realised the AI could be the reason, they do go about walking around using a bunch of other stuff and yes can go on the workbench. So soon as i started preforming tests. The results showed my ally was at fault. And yes like i stated other NPC's around your camp can also do this issue you know the shop ones that seem RNG to weather or not they be at your camp.
So not only they were opening all my doors and leaving them open even the doors i locked but now stopping me from using workbenches. That's when they crossed the line and like i said now days i trap them or put they object far away perhaps even on the edge of the camp zone limit and well do everything in my power to keep them still around by not ruining the game for me and these methods have worked well get like hardly any of these problems anymore now days.
Also with me trying to figure this problem out 3 years ago when i had it. I found out depending on were the ally connected object was placed in they camp, the Ally can claims any of the workbench as soon as they spawn in along side you and your camp, so it can very well happen as i've already explained how the AI that hangs around your camp likes to operate, with interacting with the nearest objects closet to their object.
Umm yeah having X2 the workbench is yes another option i didn't think to say, due to many of us want that building budget to be well optimised as well as the room we get to build in as we can so we can make these great places filled to the brim of cool stuffs and having another one is well gonna take up space but, yes it is good other option to get around this problem.
Nope like i said they can open any locked doors of any lock level. not to mention they don't shut doors when they walk though them making them walk around your camp even more annoying when they go about leaving a open a door that has a lock on it just open for the randoms to come in. I suppose having them being roommates in your camp it seems they always get a copy of the key somehow. Who gave them my keys to my doors. idk?
Nope never tried or heard of using that. But found my own ways to keeping them at bay with few other methods.
Surprising those metal shelves might be rubbish due to not being able to put things on them but, they are very useful to box your ally up i found and if you want to trade or talk to them well you got the gaps in those shelves, so win win, as still get to use them and have them boxed and not out of reach. It's a perfect uses for those pointless shelves lol.
