I usually find more dog food than I know what to do with.
Equip the 'Can-Do' perk if you have it. Even just one point will get you tons of canned goods, including dog food. It can trigger at almost any loot container you mouse over.

You can find it on Mama Dolce's Food, Mount Blair Trainyard, Watoga Shopping Plaza and in Watoga himself around the city, you can find the hot dog carts and on tables on the river. I hope this helps you little bit more.

Watoga. There is usually 1 to 4 cans on a outdoor like hotdog vendor near Pheonix vendor bot. Just turn right when you get to the vendor bots store door you will see the cart. Plus there is also a lady who thinks she is a robot in watoga and usually there is 1 to 3 cans around the room she is in. Actually just search all of watoga. rooftops and all. I found all the one's i needed there

so i took some advice from here, what did was, beef up with "can do it" (or whatever is called) and made a run at all the trash bins and refrigerators in watoga and galleria, it takes a lot of rng but its doable, takes about 10 minutes i'd say.

Super mutants drops them quite often. Other than that the railway stores sells many of them sometimes.

Where not to find dog food lol! Its kind of like ammo, its hard to not find it.

I always save a few of the following items so I won't have to scramble to find them for daily challenges:

* 100 pre-war money (the challenge to collect 100 of this used to show up often, but doesn't seem that way anymore).
* 10-25 pre-war food (canned dog food, cram, blamco, fancy lads, etc.)
* 10-25 nuka-cola.
* 10 alcohol, including a few vintage ones.
* 5-10 weapons that need repair (most enemies' guns have good conditions that don't need repair, a most obvious but least remembered fact; if you get a challenge to repair guns and don't have them, good luck; Bethesda did this on purpose, of course.)
* 5-10 armor that need repair.
* A few costumes, for costume-related challenges.

A good place for dog food I found last night is the Sons of Dane compound. I found four cans at one go - look up in the loft of the main building and in all the nooks and crannies of all of the trailers. I found one in the main house as well.

Check every trash can in the Whitespring Mall. (don't bother with Whitespring Refuge).
Check every trash can outside the Whitespring. Check the Trashcans in the Whitespring Club House, and around the pool there.
