Fusion Core
I am leveling a character to use power armor and so far I am level 18 and having a horrible time finding Fusion Cores. Is there a way to get fully charged cores? Or do I just need to keep hoping to find them in generators and power armor around the map?

Claiming workshops at the nuclear power plants will let you use the fusion core maker there to create fully-powered cores. Randomly-spawned PA suits sometimes have a partially charged core in them. Outside of that, just keep completing public events - some of those give out fusion cores as rewards.

Just to add on to this if you are unaware workshops are PVP zones even if you got PVP turned off you can still be attacked by players in the workshop zone.

The power plant sounds promising but that PvP does not sound so good. lol
Thanks for the info.

Farming cores from the nuclear power plant workshop is by far the most efficient way. You'll need to do the repair the plant event in addition to claiming the workshop. That way you can connect the power core machine to the plant for power. Its worth doing the repair event anyway since it rewards generator plans you don't have.

Though the whole thing is much easier if you splurge for a single month of Fallout 1st and do it on a private server so you don't need to worry about pvp. Get more cores than you'll ever use then cancel the sub.

Mostly yep, once you're level is much higher and you have got your perk cards you are less likely to struggle with cores in the future as with the slow the fusion core perk down and if you get the recharge legendary perk you can have not only get a 25% core jump to 100% by recharging it up by letting it get it by energy hits and with the slow down perk along side overall one single core can last you a long while.

Yes early on you will have your cores drain fast and have a higher demanded to have some. The best is the generations tho they are 50-100% from them. When power amours are normally 25-75% 75% if your lucky as its lot more common to find a 25% one and rarer for the 75% ones.

Best place that helped me gain quite few cores of grinding has to be morgantown and tbh i still use morgantown when am low on cores, there are 2 generations there. the airport one seems to be taken more offen but hey some severs no one has taken it but the one near the factory were feed the people happens is way way less likely to be taken, as it seems not many people know of this spot so, some severs you can get two for two in a short distance from one another.

Also there is a power amour spawn spot there as well so not only you can get 2 good % charge cores but a chance of getting 3 in one area the power amour spot is near by the feed the people robot factory as well so yes potential of 3 cores gained in seconds from one sever from this city.

Successfully completing the event Line in the Sand will award you two fully charged fusion cores.

I have a long and extensive explanation on how to do workshops without dying to PvP. But I'll give you the short version.

1) Don't hang out at the workshop.
2) When at the workshop, always be crouched.
3) Avoid the defense missions, and instead do the retake missions. Defense shows on the map so anyone can go see if you are defending. Retake is limited to your map.
4) Put a FT mat near the Fusion Core Processor so you can get in and out FAST.
5) If somebody does contest it. Let them have it. Don't go back, don't participate in PvP.

You can craft gatling lasers and get fusion cores that way. Level of the gun doesnt matter.

As you roam around, pay attention to any Power armor stations you see.

It used to be that there were some easy to access stations to farm cores, but Betathesda felt that this was somehow game breaking and removed them.

Keep an eye out for generators and power armor stations. Check those as you wander around and take cores where you find them. As mentioned, you can also craft weapons that use them.

As you increase in levels and gain access to legendary cards, you can pick energy absorption if you use power armor. This card will cause energy attacks to recharge your fusion core.

Power User (in intelligence) doubles the duration of fusion cores. It also doubles the amount of ammo you get out of them.

Do you have Fallout 1st?

If so, hop into a private server and farm the fusion cores at the power plant in-between doing some dailies. One run of this will last you a while, especially if you use the power user perk.

I can not remember the last time I had a workshop contested and I typically take all 3 powerplants when I farm cores on public servers. And if it gets attacked, I let them have it. If the person takes all 3 just to push me to engage in pvp I switch servers.

I can as near as guarantee that you will get 50 cores before you are attacked once. Remember to lock the fusion core processor though, that way passing players are less likely to grab them.

And as the comment above said, if you have fallout 1st, just do it on a private server.
BizarreMan Sep 28, 2022 @ 1:09pm
If you are taking power plants to make fusion cores, please note that the most any fusion core processor can hold is 3 cores and once it hits that amount, it stops making them until you remove the stockpile. So you have to go back on a reasonably frequent basis so it never fills up.

Power plants are way quicker. And the recharger requires you to have partial cores, they're still gonna disappear when they hit 0

There's something to look forward too, that you'll be able to choose at level 50 (yes, you're only level 18 right now).

At level 50, you get to pick your first Legendary Perk.

There's a legendary perk called "Electrical Absorption".

When you have that perk equipped, any hit from an energy weapon while wearing power armor has a chance to be completely nullified (you take NO damage), heal you briefly, and _recharged the fusion core in the armor_. Starts at 10% chance if i remember right, and goes up when you level up the perk card.

If you plan to use power armor, and stick with it, this is a GREAT perk. There are several locations around the map with robots that shoot energy weapon attacks (arktos pharma and tygart water treatment are awesome locations). Let robots shoot you, you'll start healing, your cores charge. Hop out of the armor, pull the core out, put in another (you'll automatically choose one of your lowest charged cores to insert), and repeat. You can charge up cores quickly, then get back to playing.

Also, if you're doing a heavy weapons build (and lots of power armor players are), those fusion cores are also ammo for your gatling laser. And since you can recharge them when needed, it's free ammo.

Even the first level of this perk will pretty much make you almost invulnerable to normal assaultron eyebeams by the way. Eyebeams are a continuous series of attacks, and in a microsecond it will trigger the healing, and just keep triggering it. I call assaultron eyebeams "tickle rays" now. Just a weird fringe benefit. DO not try the trick of getting out of your armor though, to switch cores, the assualtron will insta-gib you. The Electrical Absorption only works when you're in power armor.
