What order to do the content?
I just started and read it best to be lv 20 before starting wastelanders but the game keeps on pushing me towards wastelanders with all the waypoints and journal entries. What do I do? I dont even get the option to do the overseer questline.

Original questline starts when you talk to Pennington, he's the Mr.Handy outside the vault. He also triggers the wastelanders/Wayward questline so you might have missed it, just in case go talk to him and ask about overseer. Questline's name is "First Contact" and it first guides you to Overseer's camp and then Flatwoods.

I'd recommend doing the original questline first, but it doesn't really matter. It's basically one silly long tutorial that teaches how the game mechanics work from boiling the water to nuking the queen but it does have few good stories and you get familiar with the map etc.

You can turn quests on and off from pip-boy so they won't clutter your screen if you want to do them later.

Pile up scraps for repairs and scrap guns and melee weapons to get the unlocks. Then level intelligence to get the weapon crafting skill that matches your playstyle. Ranged or melee. Abit of a grind. Get one good gun or melee weapon.

Before pushing the questlines, test your survivability and sustainability. Doesnt have to be perfect but it has to be somewhat comfortable if shtf.

You can farm all the scraps at the Morgan Town Airfield and the mutant bases north of that. The prison and the dam.

That’s the problem, I didn’t get first contact. He instead wanted me to talk to the two ladies instead.

There should be a dialogue option for asking if he's seen Overseer or something like that too. It's been a while since I've done it last time so can't remember the exact options. I'd still recommend to go and check Pennington's whole dialogue tree, like said just in case.

Those 2 women start the Wayward questline, it's a side quest and you can do it before starting the wastelanders main questline, they aren't connected. I'm pretty sure wastelanders main quest starts with radio transmission when you are a bit higher level.

the later part of the wastelander quest line actualy requires you to have part of the main quest line done as you need to make an antidote for the scorch plague to start the 2nd half of wastelanders so they both can be done side by side until you finish with rosies quests as some of them are the continuation of the old main quest and some are things needed to start the infamous vault raid that ends wastelanders ( yes its confusing )
so basicly the responders and the airport and the hospital is the old questline with all its holotapes but its needed to start the 2nd half of wastelanders and the first half of wastelanders are the wayward quests and if you do both lots should take you to lvl 20 with ease ( if you didnt do the hospital first via the old main quest the overseer gives you a reason to do the hospital anyways once you hit lvl 20 ) i reckon this will not make much sense until you go through it at least once they where made with a big differance of quest logic behind them as the old stuff was for a game with no living npc s in it

You need to stash some mats for that.

Oh yeah, this, Rosie's questline is essential and enclave, BoS and Organic Solution are very useful to do before starting wastelanders.

There are several quest that are better saved for level 50 because the rewards scale. Like the wayward , and beckets questline

And vault raid itself if doing it with raiders. Just remember to be nice to Ra-Ra. :)

Ra Ra is obnoxious.

"Ra Ra we need to plan this".
"Ok, bye".
"Im dying do something".
"Told you we need a plan".
"Ok, youre boring...bye".

The quests in this game are 100% optional, nothing is locked behind any quest. The only thing that changes is raiders will be hostile until a set point in the Wastelanders questline.

Take your time, explore the map and get xp from finding new POIs. Learn how to quickly progress the season challenges as that will be the bulk of useful playtime.

Look in every container for plans as they will improve your gear or camp builds. Walk around as you can find rare vendor spawns.

This game is a marathon, not a sprint.

Do it in any order. I recomment participating in events asap when you can. That will level you the quickest.
