Steam Migration - How to overwrite my current steam save
Back a year or two ago, Bethesda gave us the option to own a copy of FO 76 on Steam by linking our two accounts. I already had many crown store items on my Beth Launcher version, so even though I did install the steam version and load it, I never really played the game on Steam. I have since uninstalled that Steam version from my library. How will the migration work with my current Steam FO 76? Will my launcher version possessions now migrate automatically to Steam? Should I reinstall the version that is currently in my Steam library? Any idea?

My understanding is your Xbox live that is linked with steam will be the saved info your game will be running off of.

My steam uses the Xbox live I got linked to it, as the saved data, before the migration stuff they only carried over character info and not atoms, but in the migration notes, they claim if you have any atoms thru Bethesda's launcher they will add it to show up while using steam. I can't verify whether they did or not, because when I hit 0 atoms on the Bethesda launcher I just started playing thru steam only.
Check their FAQ at Bethesda it should help a bit.

Your information is stored on the servers, not your PC.

I know any atoms you got thru the Bethesda launcher such as from achievements did not carry over to steam, that's why I waited until I spent mine then started playing thru steam.

Why are you regurgitating information that no longer applies?

THERE IS NO MORE BETHESDA LAUNCHER.

Name calling and throwing insults is never going to make you right.

You have given the wrong answer REPEADTEDLY. You know what is worse than giving the wrong answer repeatedly? Arguing and throwing insults at those who with the right answers.

You are ignoring information is stored on the servers.

Again you imply the character information is stored on the player's PC and not the server.

So once again in different words. It does not matter what PC launcher you use all the data for PC players are stored on the same server. The OP just needs to install the game and log in as usual.

The Beth Launcher is alive and well at this point. I know because I just logged and played thru it. My question is, for those of us who were "gifted" a steam version of FO 76 and could choose, what happens if I want my LAUNCHER version to overrite my Steam version?

It does not over write. They install in different locations. You only need one version to play.

Fallout 76 does not need a launcher to play. Fallout 76 only needs a launcher to install and update the game. All account information is stored on the servers.

The Bethesda Launcher is a discontinued service while you may have it installed and it still may run, it is no longer supported by Bethesda. This was announced months ago.

If you were linked and entitled at the launch on Steam, your steam account is linked to the Beth account. If you log in today on Steam you will have all of the characters and equipment on Steam that you currently have on Beth.

The only difference is the atom balances are currently different. When the launcher shuts down the atoms from Beth will transfer to steam.

If you have a 1st sub, it will not currently be active on Steam, but it will transfer at the appropriate time.

Thanks. I was not getting into that because it is irrelevant to the OP's question.

It also becomes irrelevant once the launcher support ends this month.

LOL. I am just saying why I did not bother :P

From my experience it always helps to have "a second opinion" back you up, especially in a help topic when someone wants to argue the wrong answer. When you only have two arguing OPs then have to decide who to trust. Personally, I never trust any idiot that calls someone son.

BizarreMan already covered this but I'll reiterate. You're already linked from the previous gifting, no need to worry about the new migration process.

All progress will be current and up to date, no need to worry about anything.

Actually, you are the one giving wrong information, at least in part.
The Beth launcher is NOT discontinued, it is being discontinued.. in May. The migration of atoms will be happening sometime this month (April). This only affects people who use the Beth launcher, so the guy you are talking to who mentioned Xbox live isn't affected at all by this.
AT this point, we are all still waiting to see exactly what is going to happen, when, and how it works out. So anything other than "Wait patiently" is false information at this time
