why are screws so rare. It should be a common junk item. There should be an assembly plant with a crap load of screws which would be plenty

There's Colossal Problem where you can collect a few hundreds of screws...

Search for little (really little) white boxes in garages and other hardware-related places. Also Scrapper perk gives them from weapons. I sell them regularly to vendor bots.

kill some Wendigos. they got 6-8 screws per body

Mark them for search in your pip boy in component view under junk tab.

Pretty much all the more complex items (typewriters, desk fans, toycars/trucks, etc) have screws and/or springs in them. Spend a little bit of time foraging while you are questing/grinding and you'll be swimming in most scrap.

If you want to kill for them: Wendigos for screws and Yao Guais for springs.

used to be rare, now you can farm ♥♥♥♥ tons of them @ ACP.

Wouldn't suggest this event to new players though.

Got all the loose screws you could ever want :steamhappy:

..
if you wanna farm screws from the event at low level, join a large group that won't be bothered by a mostly useless newb. A lot of high level characters are doing this, too, so don't worry unless the event is failing (unlikely). Just try to stay alive and get as many hits in on the mobs as possible.
**Also, freddies house of fear has a high chance of a wendigo or glowing charred ghoul spawn so if you place your camp near there and log off at camp you should be able to easily get a few every time you log in.

Lots of good advice above for bulk locations, enemies, and events, but I find the 'filter feeding' method just as productive - if you know what regular junk has screws and where it spawns you can get a lot over time. My most reliable sources for screws are fans, globes, and some kids toys - cars, trucks, and the toy rocketship. I always hit up Sugar Grove for fans and globes, but you can find other office-building-type spots to get those as well. There's a toy store in the shop-strip of outdoor shops at the Whitespring, the set of buildings that back up to the golf course, and again there are other toy shops/kids' play spots that spawn a lot of toys. Learn a few of those kinds of spots and just swing by once per login and you'll be swimming in screws in no time.

I agree with Vic. I just mark screws, and go farming. They can be hard to find, at first.

I have the opposite problem---too many screws...I always throw mine away (in a place for others to snag)

Participate in Colossal Problem. Wendigos are full of screws.
