VATS accuracy for single/semi rifles?
VATS generally works pretty well for auto-rifles, but it seems extremely random for Hunting and Lever Action rifles.
I have 13 points in Perception (level 58 character, so I'm still working on it) and maxed Concentrated Fire, but it's a completely lottery. Sometimes I can kill five enemies with five headshots and not miss at all, other times I have a wall of Supermutants within 4 meters and VATS completely misses. Too often range seems to make very little difference; it doesn't seem to matter much whether the target is 8 meters away or 40.
Concentrated Fire can help sometimes ,eventually (when your first four shots have gone walkabout, the fifth usually does hit).

Are there any other ways to improve accuracy? I can't think of other perks and I've so far not noticed much difference with different barrel and stock mods, but that's a little hard to judge (experiments have been limited by constant screw shortages too).

As an aside, the Lever Action rifle is really nice. So far I only have a Medic's explodey one with faster reload (in a bizarre reversal of my other characters, this one has plenty of legendary modules, but no cores, so I'm a bit stalled in trying for a better legendary right now), but it works. When I hit, anyway.
Not sure how well it scales, though, and damage seems a mite random.

There is a piece of armor called last bastion that has a unique legendary effect that just straight up +5 accuracy with all guns.

The game is wonky with hit reg, nothing you can do on some days/servers.

But VATS hit chance is affected by perception and weapon hip fire accuracy. True mods will increase hip fire accuracy, most people however will use aligned parts as they also reduce ap cost per shot.

ah, I've had that on one of my characters (or two, possibly). I didn't know it was unique.
Just a difficult choice when you can have three effects.

yeah, it's not even consistent on the same server, or from one minute to the next, for that matter, which is frustrating.

I thought it was hip-fire accuracy but I wasn't quite certain. When I get rich (in screws) I think I'll try some comparisons.

Thanks.

My favorite weapon is a 2 shot, exploding lever action rifle. If your like me, you don't have all the mods because they are not sold anywhere and one of the last one you get by making them and scrapping them really improves the aim and VATS accuracy. I still don't have all of the mods so thanks for reminding me to start building and scrapping them again.

I got lucky and got the suppresor and hardened receiver pretty quickly. It's rather expensive in screws to build and scrap them and they don't really drop consistently anywhere I know of.

I think I need a non-explosive, preferably anti-armor, along with my explodey one; it gets really messy to use explosive indoors where you want to scavenge stuff after the enemies are dead. Explosive isn't the greatest if an enemy gets right up in your face either....

Another great thing about the rifle is how ammo efficient it is. I'm used to auto-rifles and I constantly have problems keeping in ammo for them. The lever action is very easy in that respect (and all the bags from the spooky scorched help too right now, of course).

Yep, I kill myself a lot with it. Good Luck

Is it possible the explosive perk comes with an accuracy penalty? I have my explosive lever action rifle and another one with not very good perks (Mutant Slayer/Breaks slower/+25% dmg while aiming), and I swear the latter hits a lot more often. Like 50% more or something.
So I'm actuallly using the bad one more now even if it does far less damage, because it hits.

They both have the same receivers, barrels, stocks and sights.

In my humble opinion (yes, the full expression - if you don't know it: it's "imho") the VATS should never have entered this game. Not that I'm a super duper one-shot gamer. I'm old, but I have never used VATS in any Fallout game, apart from - sometimes - insects. Let us be honest, F76 is a shooter, like any Fallout game following F3. VATS spoils it. They should get rid of it completely.
