Magic weapons have been patched out, but too high a fire rate can cause health rubber banding.
EDIT: To add for fire rate (ultracite) gatling lasers the charging barrels work ok as the way fire rate is calculated it doesn't hurt as much.
Magic weapons were patched out and then Bethesda broke them again in another patch so some still work. You can get an Instigating lmg to still work as a magic weapon if you play on extremely bad connection. Tested it on Xbox switching between wifi and ethernet.
For DPS race content like bosses/Daily OP (If going for elder and not just farming ammo), Rate of Fire stuff is always ideal.
Also, Critical strikes (In Vats) Ignore Damage resistance. NOT armor, but Damage resistance (So things like Sentinel's effect, or boss Resistance). So if you have a good automatic build with high crit efficiency, you can chew through SBQ and Earl real good.
Critical shotgun builds can be especially devastating, as with "Four Leaf Clover" you can usually get a crit every shot. Bethesda seems to have changed it back too, so Shotguns overperform again on Armor Penetration (Each pellet uses the paper damage of the shotgun for Armor penetration check, so instead of losing like 80+% of the damage you would mathematically anticipate, you only loose like 50% or less)
200 is the magic number.
