Fallout 76
High Fire Rate/Low Damage VS. Low Fire Rate/High Damage
I'm still experimenting with this but what is the over all low down on lets say: Penta Barrel vs Tri Barrel on a Gauss Minigun. Also I have an Ultracite anti-armor/25% fire rate affix, wondering if the Aligned charging barrels would work better than having the insane fire rate.

Insane fire rate is better because if a weapon fires fast enough it glitches out the game because it can't handle it and the weapon does more damage. This is usually refered to as a magic weapon.

Interesting, so 227 fire rate would be considered "magic weapon?"
The higher the damage per shot the better. The way the game calculates damage resistance the higher damage vs opponent resistance the more damage, percentage wise, will get through.

Magic weapons have been patched out, but too high a fire rate can cause health rubber banding.

EDIT: To add for fire rate (ultracite) gatling lasers the charging barrels work ok as the way fire rate is calculated it doesn't hurt as much.

ah ok. I'll test out tri barrel with gauss minigun and if I can find a damn charging barrel I'll try that too.

Magic weapons were patched out and then Bethesda broke them again in another patch so some still work. You can get an Instigating lmg to still work as a magic weapon if you play on extremely bad connection. Tested it on Xbox switching between wifi and ethernet.
It always depends. For a "Daily Driver" gun, you should typically choose something ammo efficient, even if it doesn't have the greatest DPS. For example, I use my Gauss Shotgun as my primary weapon to deal with most creatures. It can 1-2shot everything unless I miss/bethesda problems, and the ammo can be easily farmed.

For DPS race content like bosses/Daily OP (If going for elder and not just farming ammo), Rate of Fire stuff is always ideal.

Also, Critical strikes (In Vats) Ignore Damage resistance. NOT armor, but Damage resistance (So things like Sentinel's effect, or boss Resistance). So if you have a good automatic build with high crit efficiency, you can chew through SBQ and Earl real good.

Critical shotgun builds can be especially devastating, as with "Four Leaf Clover" you can usually get a crit every shot. Bethesda seems to have changed it back too, so Shotguns overperform again on Armor Penetration (Each pellet uses the paper damage of the shotgun for Armor penetration check, so instead of losing like 80+% of the damage you would mathematically anticipate, you only loose like 50% or less)

I actually use a Vampire Gauss Gatling Gun and yeah, it's great for tanking mobs since it heals you so quickly.
