Having trouble finding food. Any tips?
I'm level 11. I'm having finding food to eat. The plants don't provide much food value so I don't normally pick the blooms. I'm low on caps so I can't buy food.

In the future I will:
- Eat any animal I can but I have to kill it with my hatchet as I'm low on bullets too.
- I'll try to find a farm when my hunger gets to 50% and get a bunch of food there.

Do you have any other tips for me?

Ignore food. Starving doesn't hurt at all. Neither does a lack of water.

There's a minor benefit when the bars are full, but it's not worth thinking about early on.

Yep, ignore it if you like.

I just replied to your comment about food in the other thread.

There are no longer any negatives to being hungry or thirsty, you just get small buffs if you choose to keep well fed and hydrated.

I do cook xp buff foods and use them when I can but generally I don't bother with food or water unless I have some on hand.

Plant some cultures in your camp and harvest them with the "green thumb" perk equiped ... .Then, with the "super duper" perk equiped, cook your harvested plants ... .

OMG, this is a huge relief. I thought I was going to have to give up. I shot a brahmin outside of the Wayward, outside of the pen, and Jide got pretty pissy about that and shot at me. I hope he's still not pissed. I needed the hide for a backpack and the meat to eat.

In Flatwoods, south of the Wayward, there are usually 3-5 Brahmin scattered around. Interact with them for milk, it quenches thirst and slightly reduces your rad level. Then kill them for meat. Head over to the diner in town and cook them at the stations outside. Also outside the diner are log piles you can loot for wood for cooking. However, as the previous poster stated, low hunger/thirst levels no longer have negative effects so it’s safe to ignore unless you really desire the buffs.

Jide will forget about it after a certain time or after you change servers.

Honestly if all you want to do is explore and play the game you can completely forgot about food. If later when you are much higher level and doing ok and you want to cook foods you can worry about it then.

Just want to ask, are you cooking your food or eat it raw? :P
It seem like you didn't properly cook your food so it not provide that much of nutrition(?)

Also you can find canned of dog food that won't go bad (not spoil), in Mama Dolce's Food Processing, it usually there for about 5-10 canned, and with "Good Doggy" perk card, your hunger won't be a problem for a very long time. :P

You can add me if you want, I can help you with ammo, food and water for free, with only condition that you only use for yourself and not selling it. I would be happy to help out new players

Early on the Good Doggie perk and the cola perk helped me a lot. You dont have to eat but early on the benefits you get from being full of food and water will help you advance quicker and make some fights somewhat easier. Also some plants give benefits to all kinds of specials. Cooking is your friend in this game.

If you follow the responders quest lines in Flatwoods they talk about food and water. Both of which are irrelevant now.

When first starting out, I grabbed some corn from the wayward and planted them around my camp.. Collected dirty water from my water pump and boiled it. Collected the corn I planted and made corn soup ( good for food and water intake but still gave rads, much less tho rather then raw ) during the whole process, but with rad-away, kept things at bay. melon juice was the same except no food value. Then found out the fact (some) vendors allow you to farm their pureifiers for water, Only thing you have to fast travel to them for your water supply. Some give at least 3 for each pureifier so when you get the plans, build several as soon as you can. You can then farm for your water supply as well as sell excess for caps. As several said above, food really is not necessary, but it can be found at places stated above and I only eat when I find the canned food or whatever.. canned never spoils.

There's old/packaged food everywhere - look in all the different lunchboxes & coolers, look in the garbage cans, check the nuka cola machines for full bottles, look on counters & in kitchens, search abandoned campsites, etc.

There is the Can Do![fallout.fandom.com] perk that finds cans in bins. Equip it and run around a place like The Whitesping interior to find heaps.

Full food meter is good for new players as it provides disease resistance when you have few disease cures or antibiotics. All food has a crap fill amount though so you need to 'eat like a yank' and have large portions, 3 or more large cans of dog food.

In Morgantown between the High School and Tattoo Parlour is a tent city that can have a lot of cans of Dog Food (food for dogs, does not contain dog meat, wastelanders).

no penalty for starving/going thirsty, but the bonuses are good especially with a perk. There's a lot of food in the game. I only sometimes run out of it.

Make it a habit to pick up all meat and flowers and stop at a cooking station every once in awhile. Good way to stay stocked on food.
