One Wasteland - One Huge Mistake
I was enjoying Fallout 76 despite all the negative press and negative reviews. Then One Wasteland was forced on us. I very quickly lost interest in the game and I don't play anymore. Level scaling ruins most games, and it's pretty much ruined this one for me.

Any chance others feel this way? I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

Do you think there's any chance they'll consider allowing us to opt out of level scaling? Why can't we select "One Wasteland" or "Real Fallout" difficulties when we start the game?

Seriously, I hate it when games make major changes like this. It completely changes the game. I want some areas to be difficult and some to be inaccessible when I'm a very low level. Lower level areas should be a lot easier once I gain 20 levels as well. Enemies should not scale based on my level. If they gained levels by killing things, or accomplishing missions, no problem. But just because I level up doesn't mean every single thing in the entire game world should level along with me. Some things should be easier, some harder. It's called variety, and it's the spice of life.

You probably just have a bad build. Try some new things and if by then you're still not enjoying just go play something else.

I love one wasteland because now I have level appropriate enemies all across the map, and not only on certain spots. Before I used to melt through 80% of the map effortless, which is not fun at all.

Edit:
Also, there are still some easier enemies and harder ones. There's just not that many one hit kills anymore.
After you're a certain level there are enemies ranging from level 50 up to 100.

I was not sure I would like it but honestly it is one of the best if not the best change made to the game.

I do not believe I have any bad builds. I have several characters and can completely smash pretty much everything that's level scaled with no trouble in the early to mid game.

I can't go anywhere for a reasonable challenge until I hit the late or endgame, and at that point you're fighting things that are level 50-100 which is the same thing you used to experience as a level 10 if you went somewhere with level 15 to 20 enemies. Now you're losing out on the ability to have that kind of challenge, and to go where you probably shouldn't, in the early and mid game. You could always do this in the other Fallout games. Yes, I'm thinking all the way back to Wasteland, Fallout, Fallout 2... etc. Yeah, I know some of the newer games had limited scaling systems, but not the full on equal to you all the time (before endgame) system that 76 has.

I have gone and played something else. I haven't touched this game since October. I just saw an big update install on Fallout 76 today and it made me consider why I stopped playing. After thinking about it that reason was the One Wasteland update. Level scaling ruined the game for me and I think it was a huge mistake. There are several articles and videos out there about level scaling and why it's generally a bad thing in RPGs and MMORPGs.

I dunno, I made another twink character like couple of weeks ago and I was quite surprised that many of the so-called "high-level" kinds of entertainment are actually quite okay when you're like lvl 20-40. How much easier this game can be?
There's no penalty for playing "wrong" at all.

You know, without one wasteland low level players are quite restricted on where you can explore. Heck, completing tadpole quest to get backpack is super challenging as one of quest is in the mire and low level weapon will only tickling the monster there.

I've adapted to it but I still don't like it much. It's true that the map is more open but the reality is there is little point going back to lower level areas. At higher levels you're still probably going to hang around the Cranberry Bog, Mire and Savage Divide more than elsewhere as that is where the xp is (events and lvl 50+ mobs).

One thing that bugs me about it is that it is hard to have 'fun' builds. I've been playing around with high health characters and the damage output on some is pathetic, even with high damage perk load outs and weapons.

For example I have a Crusader pistol (2* Furious/Limb damage) modded for fire character and it takes 7 shots on average to kill a Ghoul... That is with 60% gunslinger, tenderiser, concentrated fire for head shots, eagle eyes mutation, tank killer, even adrenal reaction mutation. And those 7 shots drain my AP ~200 so if grim reapers sprint doesn't proc I'm stuck ADS/hipfire for awhile. It's not fun as tougher mobs are a boring exchange as they won't kill me but I take so long to kill them.

However, if you play the ubiquitous low health stealth commando the issues aren't as pronounced as there is a lot of over-kill built into the play style. Some will like it, some will hate it and it usually depends on which side of the balance scale they sit.

I enjoyed this game a lot more before these big changes. The game has become much more laborious to play. Every mosquito feels like a boss fight now. Well i don't need to play it simple as that...

Macdallan you are Absolutely Right... Very dissapointed too... All fun is ruined with this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ update... never played after this

This is probably the only game where I actually don't mind the level scaling. I find mods to disable scaling in most Bethesda games, but fo76 it feels alright to me.
