Question ab faction and buying plans of of gold vendors

So i dont think i am at the point of no return for factions but i cant buy from Mortimer because he isnt there and i want the plans he sells for the guass mini-gun what should i do side with the raiders or settlers? i heard you could still buy the plans but will i be able to get rep up with the raiders after i raid the vault with the settlers? i wanna side with the settlers but if i wont be able to get rep up with the raiders and not be able to buy the mobs id have to side with the settlers

Yes you can still gain rep with both side or one side or the other after doing the vault raid and in effect picking a side, there was a pretty big discussion on this on the official forums some time back and the answer most people stated was that it was easier to get rep for both of them before you choose sides, afterwards the side you did not choose seem to give rep slower, not by a major amount but by a small amount, though whether that has or was changed in the various updates or was just a bug who knows.

Minerva did have the gauss mini gun base plans at one point I think, so chances are they will appear again from her, and she requires no faction rep to buy from just bullion, so that may be an option, not too sure what she currently has in her pool, and she is currently in her big sale mode, so will be around till sunday.

if you would like a chart with all the factions rep quests and how the break down for rep works in the main quest... with otu any story spoilers...except names of quest givers and a bit about the quests.... ill leave this here....
rep is a grind...no real quick way around it only so much can be earned per day cycle. 20 ish hrs real time. as above the new minerva npc who travels to the big 3 factions sells cycling sets of gold bullion plans. both from the factions and daily ops or so ive heard. when i went to her first time she was at foundation. she was selling foundation plans... *facepalm*
so theres a 4th path to bullion plans. raiders/settlers/secret service/minerva.
heres that chart in spoiler form in case people dont want to see the options and results

Faction reputation points gained from Main and Story Quest:

Main Quest Vault Raid:
Secrets Revealed
Split gold with chosen faction +1000 Rep Chosen faction
Keep all gold to yourself -500 Rep Both Factions
Split gold with both factions 300 Rep Chosen faction / 900 Rep Other faction

Daily: Vital Equipment
Complete quest normally, accept reward +200 Rep Settlers
Donate reward to Foundation +250 Rep
Let Raider keep item +10 Rep Raiders / -10, +0 Rep Settlers

Daily: Retirement Plan
Complete quest normally, accept reward +200 Rep Raiders
Kill Former Raider ("Appalachia has a new corpse") +225 Rep Raiders
Tell Former Raider to return to The Crater +210 Rep Raiders
Tell Former Raider to move to Foundation +25 Settlers / +200 Raiders
(Tell Rocksy Appalachia has a new corpse to get Raider Rep if telling raider to goto foundation.)
(side note this daily is interesting as you can hunt the hunters first, talk to them convince them to give you caps then kill them and take the loot then talk to the runaway raider pick which ever choice gets you the rep youre after, then also kill that runaway raider loot them and take all the loot from both and sell it back to the raiders. as long as you do the rocksy
comvo as above youll get the max rep with the bonus caps from the hunters and selling the loot)

Daily: The Importance of Communication
Complete quest normally, accept reward 200 Rep Raiders
Decline Reward ("on the house") 225 Rep Raiders

Daily: Photo Opportunity
Take photos to Ward (decline reward) 75 Rep Settlers
Take photos to Kiyomi (decline reward) 75 Rep Raiders
(return to davenport lie about getting robbed and get more rewards)

Defend Dock Water Purifier (talk to Fishbones) 10 Rep Raiders
Give Queen Mirelurk Meat To Blackeye 25 Rep Raiders
Give normal mirelurk meat To Blackeye 10 Rep Raiders
This whole deal can be buggy, might need to talk to Fishbones multiple times asking him
about why he is stuck out here and then asking if you can help...
this side quest exists in the game but isnt much rep but added here because it does work...sometimes.

I do not take credit for this chart, i just reorganized it and made it postable on steam forums.
I cannot recall the name of the person who did post this up on google docs where i first found it.

this chart may change in the future due to Bethesda Austin making changes to the reputation system or other additions to the reputation system with new factions.
as of June 2021 this chart should be fairly accurate.
after July 7th 2021 things may change due to new crafting systems and bullion vendor.

s turner answered that but yes. all the choice matter is who you run the raid with. you could work with both factions to a certain point... and then pick. run the raid...etc. the after effects are which faction if any give syou bonus rep or minus rep depending on quest ending. i dont wish to spoil anything.... after the story is over... you are able to visit both factions vendors and do daily quests for both factions. including mortimer. as you move thru the factions rep meter more in the bots inventory shows up. same for settlers.
a good idea is to keep track of minervas travels... she has a weird cycle and inventory changes with a special sale once a month. but i suggest keeping track and visiting her when she goes to a new factions base. as you may just be able to snag the plans you want from her before you are deep enough in rep with a factions vendor. good luck.

edit: i should really add this... IF for ANY reason you find yourself hostile to a faction raiders/settlers...theres an npc that shows up at the wayward...well 2 npcs to be honest. the one downstairs in the bar is a fixer. for some caps they can fix the hostility restoring your access to the faction bases. the other npc...well no spoiling... you can visit after the raid is over and meet them yourself ;)
