Can't look up or down

Hey!
I'm having an issue with looking up and down.
I'm using a basic USB controller (don't like using keyboard and mouse!) and I have the analog on, I can move around easily enough, but the right analogue stick won't allow me to look up or down, just left and right. Any advise? TIA

That doesn't solve my immediate problem, and I don't like the Xbox controller. I've tried a generic USB controller, which doesn't look up or down, and a PS3 controller, which doesn't even register. I need a solution for my current problem; one that doesn't involve me wasting even more money. I.e. a tech fix for the issue at hand.
