Fairly self explanatory what scrapping means and does.
The shelter entrance is the only thing telling the game you have a shelter for the above ground camp. Your shelter and all its contents you have built are only actually there in game when you enter and load into the shelter.
The shelter entrance essentially contains all the information of what is built inside the shelter like the table of contents of a book. When you are above ground only this "table of contents" exists as your instanced shelter is not loaded in the game engine.
If you scrap the shelter entrance this "table of contents" is deleted along with it. It doesn't store it as you now have no shelter. Now you know.
You said you scrapped the shelter and lost everything inside. Why didn't you just rebuild it? You just said it will still be there even after scrapping and rebuilding?
So your saying you experienced some kind of bug?
Good to know. Can only comment on your actual experience, which made it sound like the way the mechanics are supposed to work was not working.
At least it is clear for all of us now that it isn't all lost after scrapping the shelter entrance.
