Refined .50 receiver and .50 receiver both deal the same damage?
I'm trying to mod my hunting rifle into a .50cal and notice the refined one has the same damage number as regular .50. Why is that? Am I missing something here?

One of the does more critical dmg or something like that. Pay attention to the text in the middle bottom of the screen.

i think your observation is correct. they both increase the damage by the same margin, just the refined one adds to the rifle weight whereas the regular one does not. the critical does less base damage than the other two. so if base damage is what you are looking for, you should go for the regular .50 receiver.

According to the description, refined receiver improves damage though? I think the one that increases critical is another mod. Right now, the only different refined plan offer is added weight.

refined DOES improve damage compared to a standard hunting rifle receiver. that is as true as it is for the hardened receiver. however, the standard .50 cal receiver increases the damage more than the critical one does and exactly the same amount as the refined one.
for a one-shot-kill build, the critical is still more effective for stealth kills. it becomes inferior once you are detected.
