How do you recycle ammunition?
I've got this huge stash of unused ammunition lying around, and cannot figure out how to melt it down into scrap. Is there some perk card or mod I need to do this on a workbench?

You don't.

The only options you have is to trade with players or use the Ammo Converter. The Ammo Converter is obtainable via season reward or you buy it from raider reputation vendor with gold bullion.

I find the Ammo Converter to be entirely too tedious. Not really worth wasting your time on.

Too true, the ammo converter should just be a storage box, dump all the ammo you don't want in, tell it to process, receive points.

1. Deposit ammo into storage
2. Press process on machine
3. Receive readout on points gained and new total
4. PROFIT.

wuuut... so I just gotta throw away 900 rounds of 38 caliber bullets... this makes me sad.
tbloyzz Nov 19, 2020 @ 3:10pm
most ammo types are not particularly heavy. the 38 is certainly not. you do not gain much by dropping those. i still give it to very low level players, because i have no use for it and the batch system of the ammo converter drives me nuts. why they did not do the conversion similar to a regular trade is beyond me.

That's it, just get a combat rifle and put a .38 automatic reciever on it and burn it off having fun. Also the ammo convertor is nice. I used to collect junk for missiles and mini nukes to make with ammosmith, super duper and ammo factory, dump them into the convertor to max it out and never worry about ammo for a while.

dont pick up useless ammo
only fo game i remember scraping ammo was fonv and it was a pain as well

Get the perk bandoiler, ammo weight is reduced by 90%, i carry probably 50-75k ammo at all times.

That's the truth. You don't need to pick everything up. I leave piles of loot everywhere, especially after I hit the daily cap limit at the vendors. Especially ammo and junk, if I don't use it I don't need it.

This 100% this

Put it in your vending machine at 1 cap a pop, lots of it sells that way
otherwise you can just drop extras at common places (purveyor, raider/settler) and gift it to others

yes, but with a pretty low priority, because everything else is more heavy than ammo. the perks to reduce explosives, food and chems weight are much more effective, unless you want to carry around endless amounts of cannonball and .50 ball ammo or you do actually not carry anything else but ammo, which would be pretty rare.

Level 600 here, i carry loads more ammo then food, i have maybe 5 pieces of food in my inv and rarely any stimpaks.
From my experience bandoiler is a really practical perk to have.

i know, i use it too, because i am usually overloaded. for fast travelling, i jump into the excravator and equip pharma, pack rat, bandolier, ordonnance, bear arms and one level strong back. i like to carry a lot of explosives and chems around while i only craft as much ammo as i think i will need until i get the next opportunity to craft more.i also carry a selection of heavy guns. so ammo is a minor weight factor for me in comparison. it is probably more important for a commando build.
you are certainly right about the food though.
