How do I kill an Assaultron? They're just killing me with their beam although I hide behind a door.

Try having energy resistance

cripple its legs with frags to make it enter "crawl mode" or shoot it in the head a lot, the faster the better and run after the laser charges and zig zag

use PA and circle around it, dont sit there and try to tank its head laser
You should not stop moving unless you have good cover

Pain in the butt, yea but not impossible

at lvl 50 200 energy resistance is still a little low

if you under level 50 go fight things you can handle and come back and over power it ( the lower level you are the more advantage this one bastard of an enemy has)

Also helps to be on a server of lower level players, or use the private server as that will lower the average overall level of everything

Enforcer (Agility perk) + Shotgun to the legs = Helpless assaultron. (Doesn't work on Impostor Sheepsquatch though)

Power Armor+good cover+shot in its legs/head with gauss rifle from distance+psychobuff. Its charging head often reveals itself, when in cloak mode.
Power armor+any fast heavy gun from close range. (I dont recommend close combat against this one though)
But under level 50-60 just avoid it. You cannot loot any interesting from its body anyway.

-> This. Just avoid and go back to those areas once you hit lev 45/50 and got a decent power armor. I think 80% of my deaths were caused by assaultrons, the other 20% were cause by my own stupidity and using a two-shot explosive 50cal at close range.

Same here. Like 50% charred ghoul horde 30% assaultron 20% any other. +2 times troll-players....

Destroying its legs is the best way to stop it in its tracks

Don’t listen to everyone who’s just trying to flex instead of answering your question. Killing assaultrons is hard, I still die to them from time to time and I’m lvl 150

Firstly they are far less likely to fire off their death beam if they are in melee, so if you have a decent melee weapon with a fast swing speed you can run up, block, put them into block stun, and hit them one or two times before blocking again. It takes a while, but it works.

Secondly, as others have said, crippling (destroying) their legs can greatly reduce their danger, and you can stab/shoot them on the ground without too much trouble. Admittedly, this is hard to do at range.

Thirdly, if you know you are going up against assaultrons, get in a set of power armor. Even excavator armor (one of the lowest protection power armors) has enough shielding to make most assaultron fights manageable.

Hope that helps!

If you are having trouble destroying its legs 1 word - Mine.
Fragmentation or Pulse Mine is a great option. You find so many fragmentation mines throughout the map and using them against Assault Trons and Death Claws is their intended purpose.

Because these 2 always chase you - Mines are a great way of crippling their legs.

Can I put several mines? Does the second mine explode if it's next to the first one?

You can - but this is F76 and its super buggy.
If you are lucky it takes damage of all the mines.
If you are not.... it takes damage of 1 of the mines and rest explode and you waste them.

Best to just drop one mine at a time or otherwise put all the mines as close to each other as possible so they all explode at same time and not by chain reaction

P.S
Death claws can actually jump passed the mine and explode them without taking damage.
So you want to place mine in such a way it walks over the mine and not jumps over them. For example keeping the mine at the corner of a building \ obstruction so it "turns around the corner" and steps on the mine.
