Are plasma rifles good?
So i read somewhere that the plasma rifle is silent (as if a silencer is attached to it) is this true?

Also I was wondering about the damage of a plasma rifle. I'm currently using a handmade rifle but im growing bored of it and want a new rifle.

So i was looking at using a plasma rifle for my sneak rifle build. Are plasmas any good damage wise?

Thanks.

Personally I think a normal plasma rifle is weaker than a handmade.
However it is a great "alternate weapon" to use running dailies on lowbie mobs.

However if you modify the plasma rifle with a flamer barrel it becomes a great close combat weapon, it does eat ammo though.

Thanks. In that case I could go a silenced gauss rifle with plasma flamer for close combat. Then add the energy ammo wright reduction i guess?

Gauss Rifles are frustrating.

1. They have a bad case of missing at 95% chance to hit in VATS, repeatedly.

2. Their damage does not register correctly. I can use a critical hit and do nothing. The sneak attack damage does not register sometimes.

However when the Gauss Rifle does work correctly it is an amazing gun.
It does not require a bloody build.
My Primed Zealot can hit the Scorchbeast Queen for like 300 in the body and 500 in the head.
My Instigating Gauss Rifle will do 1200ish damage which is more than enough to one shot most mobs.
Even with all the misses it is very ammo efficient.

The gauss rifle is still not fixed? Damn I hate using these low powered rifles.

If your using a sneak rifle build you should look into getting a fixer as those are basically MADE for stealth builds.

All charging weapons still have many issues, especially related to VATS, but the biggest one is that your shots will sometimes just fizzle out after charging. The gauss rifle is no exception, but as said it is a monster if it actually hits.

The plasma rifle is okay, but the damage sucks with a sniper or semi-auto barrel. In comparison, the flamer and automatic barrel barely decrease the damage but DRASTICALLY increase its overall damage output. Even with relevant perks and a good build, the sniper one is simply not strong enough to justify the lower ammo capacity.

I fell in lust with the Plasma Rifle with the Flamethrower Barrel the very first time I used it. The Gattleing Plasma is a pretty awesome heavy weapon, too. It's only real issue is the scarcity of really decent Legendaries and it's insanely low duribility. I've switched to a Combat Shotgun and a .50 Caliber simply because I found really, really good ones and have yet to even see a three star Plasma anything.
And without Legendary mods, they just break too quickly to be useful against anything major. My standard, fully modded out but not legendary Plasma Rifle could not take down a "boss" type Lvl 50+ Large creature (Mirelurke King/Queen, Sheepsquatch, etc.). It would break by the half way point in the fight. Not even Legendary creatures, mind you, just the regular ones. That was with Lvl 5 Gunsmith active.
Hope this helps.

Most energy weapons are trash. Tesla rifle and gatling plasma are the best in this group of weapons.
I use bloodied rileway rifle, fixer and .50 cal as my main weapons

I've noticed that Plasma rifles are a great starter weapon when you are a low level. After you pass level 50 they're just 'meh' for exploring. Much better alternatives out there. :VBCOOL:

I enjoy my plasma gatling, makes nuclear material out of most enemies so I can craft items requiring it without using acid to refine uranium ore.
