The quests on the main plotline are tailored to your character only. Your friend can come help, but you'll have to do the quest a second time for their version. Other than that you can do stuff together.
Except text chat. Make sure you both have voice or some way to communicate.
If so, then its okay. In TESO also main quests of base game was singleplayer only.
Your party leader is the "Main character" as far as important descisions and interior cells are concerned with the other players in the group being their "Followers".
Certain stats are shared between the party though as I mostly solo, I don't have all the details for that. I'm sure someone else can elaborate on the mechanics.
Pretty much like that. You'll have some personal quests that take place in private instances that reflect your storyline progression. You can bring a friend in to help with the fighting, but it wont progress their version of the same quest.
Everything outside of the main story stuff you can just do together. The game also has a feature where you can share perk benefits with your party if you have at least a 3 charisma. Thats in addition to charisma based party perks. So that's something fun you can't do in ESO.
Co-op is what most people asked for but got multiplayer instead...
Anyway, you can co-op just fine. Unfortunately, you just have to be aware that regardless if you are in a group or not, you still have to do some damage to get experience (from kills). Just being in your Co-op group isn't enough. You can share quest experience, but not kills.
If you aren't interested in PvP, have your friend and yourself set pacifist to ON (found in settings).
Be careful who you invite to your Co-op group. If you invite someone that is currently engaged/flagged for PvP, it will flag your entire group regardless if you have Pacifist set to ON.
Workshops are PvP areas. I Don't bother with them much. I think the way they work is, if it's uncontested, you aren't flagged, but anyone can start a duel if the shooting starts. Once it does, you're flagged. Once the workshop is owned/contested, anyone wandering into the area will be flagged for PvP regardless if pacifist is enabled. Just stay away if you're not into PvP.
