what is best way to farm ammunition ?

a quick trip around places with gym equipment and your rolling in lead steel is a simple case of scrapping everything u find with the scrapper perk

grab every can you can find, tin, aluminum, and regular. They have led and are everywhere and are reasonably lightweight.

I crafted 350 ammo for my grenade launcher it lasted 6 hour. They could double the amount you get per craft imho.

Btw, it was blast, really recommended stuff.

Focus on collecting acid. Then make a trip to Lucky Hole Mine, and there's a few choice locations with tons of iron nodes.

As others have said, the only way to farm it is to craft it - especially if running a heavy weapons build - otherwise, you'll never find any where near enough...

Try running a 50cal or minigun... I virtually never find 50cal ammo, and finding 6-12 5mm rounds is little more than a trigger pull on my minigun...

5mm drop from Minigun enemies comes with 50 or 100, similar to enemies with flamer (fuel, although 5mm drop are much more popular than fuel).

But yeah, lucky hole mine with Excavator Power Armor are good for large lead farming, and Uranium Fever with scrapper can net you up to 1200+ steel per run. That would cover your weekly .50 / .308 / 2mm EC / 5mm weekly usage

I also use gating laser with prime receiver when I want to conserve ammo usage - you can turn 2 fusion cores to 3 full charge prime fusion core - that was 3000 unit worth of laser firing! You can craft them with nearly empty fusion cores (tips - store your full / high charge fusion core with friend or vending machine then craft prime fusion core with low charge cores)

the BEST way to farm ammo, is to wait till i collect a bu77 load of it and then do one of my...

"every one has an hour to come to my CAMP and collect free ammo. i did this just yesterday. had over 7500 rounds of various ammo."

only one person came to my CAMP and took 1000 rnds of 308, 950 rnds of shotty, and 1200 rnds of 10mm.

the other 4500 rnds and 2 rare plans?.........POOF!!! in to the digital aether they went. too bad, as there was a plasma grenade plan there.

my play time varies, so it could be days, or a week till i give away free ammo again.

Play as a team and use weapons that require different ammunition types. Even if you play with only 1 other player, as long as you both tag every enemy you kill, you'll effectively be doubling the body drops from each enemy. Instead of 8-10 ammunition dropping from each kill, it'll be 16-20 split between the two of you. With four players that would be like 32-40 for things like shotgun shells. For 5mm which tends to drop 100 at a time, that would be 400/5mm rounds from a single minigun wielding mutant.

Use grenades and fatmen launchers, and run the enemies around terrain to bunch them up before firing. A single explosive can save you a great deal of ammunition by weakening, if not outright killing multiple enemies.


All else fails, run around the forest/ash-heap visiting blood eagle camps, killing them in power armor with a melee weapon. They tend to carry a mix of ammunition and weapon types.

If you want .308, 10mm and shotgun shells, do a few loops through the Poseidon Energy Plant - there are something like 40-50 low level scorched in there that all use those ammunition types predominantly. New Gad is also a solid place to farm .308, and the mutants will all carry a couple caps on them usually too.

5.56 is concentrated more heavily in the Savage Divide and Mire, where the mole miners, mutants and scorched start to carry more assault rifles.

Farming plasma cores isn't really a thing, but if you want to try it, aim for blood eagle camps. The bosses of the camps tend to carry heavy weapons, and it isn't uncommon to see them wielding a plasma gat every once in awhile, with a core or two in their inventory to power it.


Your best bet, though, is to just play the game with friends and share resources that you personally don't need with your team. An hour running around the savage divide killing random mutants and such can easily provide a single player 500/5mm, and a few hundreds of several other ammunition types in addition to more chems than a person could reasonably use. A team of four all tagging the same monsters would collectively generate four times the loot without having to do any additional damage.

Just pickup stuff with lead in it, can be rat poison, pencils, paint cans and weights. Lucky hole mine is also good to farm lead ore in. Robots also drop lead, and other metals like aluminum.
If you farm ore, you might need acid, so get acid from bears, crickets, and snallygasters. There are some spots with alot of them at, so you can just server jump until you have enough.

Gun powder need cloth and acid if you are going to craft it. But you might just find enough from fallen enemies.

Only farm steel when you have alot of lead and and gun powder. Just go to west tek and kill all the super mutants there, and take their weapons. You can also get plastic there if you want to craft shotgun shells. When you scrip the weapons use the "Scrapper" perk so you get more steal from the weapons you scrap. You get around 16 steel from a assault rifle, 10 plastic from a laser rifle with scrapper perk. So you can get like 500 steel in just one run. 150 steel if you do it without scrapper perk.

When you craft ammo, get ammo smith, and super duper perk.
