Can you copy the game over from the Bethesda install location?

I tried doing this and when I try to pre-load on steam, it starts downloading the whole game again. Any way for it to recognize the files I already have on my drive?

That's what I tried. I copied all the files from the bethesda game folder to steamapps\common\Fallout76. It is still trying to download 57 GB.

I would say otherwise try again after the full release date. Pre-loading on Steam might not check for pre-existing files because most games don't offer pre-purchase after being released on other platforms.

But you may as well just pre-load anyway since you got a lot of time before it unlocks.

Because there are specific files that tie games to the Steam launcher vs the Bethesda launcher. If you want to use Steam you need to download their version, not the Bethesda launcher version.

The majority of the content files (.bsa's/.esm's) should be identical to the bethesda.net version. Unless the files on Steam are currently completely different (Steam's pre-patched or OP's are outdated), Steam would only patch platform-specific files or any other files that would fail verification.

The current version is pre-patch version without wastelanders update. The update will be huge.

Well, for now if you start the pre-download, it's saved as a depotcache file (1151342_depotcache_1.csd), it will probably unlock/extract when the game is available, so wait with the copying.. You need to change your appmanifest_1151340.acf so steam sees the game as downloaded, then you probably need to do a file verification through Steam too.

What the hell is that supposed to do? According to the changelog the update will be so massive that probably every single bsa is being updated. So your plan is to let the game update like 15 or 50gb through bethesta launcher and copy it over to steam instead of pre-loading right now and just hitting play on release day.

LOL, as I said but more like 50-70GB to download for the update but this was expected.
