Fallout 76
Is there a reason to start a new character?
Hi, I'm lvl 22 with my first character and I'm picking atributes as I see fit for the moment, based on the cards I have, I'm focusing on decreasing the weight of gear, luck, agility, perception, sometimes strength, I feel like i'm going for the Jack of All trades and Master of none.

Any tips on what atributes I shold focus and as the title says, is there a reason to start a new character, can you mess things so badly that will be almost impossible to progress at certain point?

i start new characters cause i just get bored with the others. i got a 300+ a 200+ and a 100+. now that wastelanders came out, i started another. lvl 67 as of today.
I'm on my first, and besides the builds and maybe story choices, which for me are not that much important to start a new game over, it seems boring start new character to explore the same zones, I explore like 25% of the map maybe, I don't see myself starting again and doing all the same missions and explore what I've done before.
When I have taken all the caps and script from vendors then I switch to an alt. Especially now that vendors are disabled.

As many have stated, you can "correct" errors made in leveling SPECIAL after level 50. At some point you will get all the Perk cards out there and in a future expansion there will be perk loadout swapping.

I think the main reason would be Role Play. You can have one character be bandit faction and the other be settler faction. While you can slowly modify your SPECIAL it is easier to just jump on a new character and make a new build. I have seen many streamers with multiple characters with different builds and RP roles. They swap characters for variety and based on mood at the time.

There are lots of builds, bloodied, heavy gunner, sniper, stealth assassin, drug melee. and variations of all. Streamers and others often have their build available on the web, There is a build planner out there.

I am not level 50 yet but I am pretty sure my thoughts on SPECIAL will be different for end game content. I will probably move perks from weight reduction to combat related maybe even Luck.

With no level cap won't you eventually have pretty much all the cards and can then put together any build you want?
at level 715 which would take the average user over 3000~ hours perhaps?

More like anywhere between level 300 to 550. That's if you want all the maxed out cards and depends greatly on luck for cards drawn as you leveled. Considering many perks you won't rank up I would say level 400ish. I have seen many 300 level players. So it's not crazy to think 400-500. At end game, maximizing efficient event route helps leveling.

Honestly it depends on how much "correction" it takes. If it exceeds a certain point then it might be easier to write the character off as a mule or alt and create a new one and follow a build guide (aka Nuke Dragons build and the leveling guide.)

I have a 210, 157, 120, 145, and a 90 currently. I have deleted a 3 characters between 60 and 90.

XP gain is going to be based upon what you do, not hours played.

Thanks for all the replies, I got a lot of insights, gonna see which weapons I like the most and focus on that, but what about charisma and strength for Weight capacity, aren't those important atributes?

Charisma is important to get to 4 because that lets you use the Lone Wanderer perk at max level. Unless you always play in a group, you will want that perk.

Strength for carrying capacity is not a good idea imo. Unless you are going Melee, most strength cards kind of suck. You also get a backpack that you can upgrade which increases carrying capacity, and you can craft/find good armor with Deep Pockets to increase it more if you want. I have mine at 4 in a stealth rifle VATS crit build.
Theres'on ly tw o reasons imho.

- Not to deal with the very bad respec system
- Mule.

Traveling Pharmacy (-30/60/90% aid weight)
Bandolier (-45%/90% ballistic ammo weight)
Full Charge (No power drain sprint in power armor, combine with no VATS and no core usage.)
Blocker (-15/30/45% melee damage)

Those are good on any non-melee build.

Well, it depends on your playstyle I guess.

Personally I only use chems for Charisma/Barter and rarely ever need a stimpack. Ammo doesn't weigh all that much unless you are carrying a ton of it, or missiles/etc but heavy weapons are pretty much a strength build to begin with (so probably melee also). Same with power armor and Blocker; I'd never use those on a non-strength/melee build.

Maybe, im like lvl 60 playing off Bethesda all this time, and now it is on steam, and apperntly to my surprise I have the game here too. So I see all these adcheivments I already had done not marked for steam. So now I have to consider of starting another Profile to just get the adcheivments caught up...
