Loose weapon mods

How do I install said phyiscal weapon mods that you buy/find. I have a few and I can't install them on the correct gun. It is kind of infuriating. I'm most likely missing something....

You install them at the crafting table the same way you craft mods. It just lets you do it without knowing the recipe or having the ingredients if you have the loose mod.

So go to the appropriate workbench, select mod, select your weapon, then select the category the mod falls under and it should be available.

The mod is a large drum for my Submachine gun. I have a submachine gun, I go to the workbench, modify, select my gun, go to magazine and it isn't there.
To note I have a legendary, does that affect it?

I've had a few legendary quest reward guns that couldn't be modded, but they don't even let me attempt to mod them. The only thing I can think of is that the mod might not be for the gun you think its for. But really just guessing without seeing both.

My clan mates suggested since it is legendary, that might affect it. I get another copy, non legendary, submachine gun. Do the same process and nothing comes up. Just standard magazine, nothing else

You might be right, I just checked the wiki. Its a different model and different bullets. Are there two types of submachine guns?

Yep, your right. I checked the caliber. There are two dictinctly different submachine guns, just mine is named Submachine gun but calibered differently. Sick.
