The character moving at snails pace, which makes the game infuriatingly slow and boring, also obscuring enemies through foreground stuff or off-screen is simply unfair. The scenery is an eyesore of beige on grey, it makes the ending quite fitting and I was as relieved as the character about the end.

Its a very "vibing" game. But its very mechanically flawed. Its boring to play. You have to wait for long in game hours, to do the missions. It has basically nothing else then shoot etc. Do not recomend it.

I played the game out of respect because I really liked Friends of Ringo Ishikawa. But Arrest of a Stone Buddha is not nearly as good...

Not so good

This is a hard call.

Is it a good game? Not really. The gameplay is mostly meandering between missions. I like the many pointless interactions you can have with the environment, but it gets old fast. The missions themselves offer almost no variety, a corridor filled with morons running in and getting themselves killed. There is very little fun to be had.

Is it a good story? Not really. Between missions is a single conversation with the same person that offer little insight or character development. There isn't a real narrative nor real investment. Your targets are meaningless to you, as is everything else.

Is it art? Yes. Most of the shortcomings listed are by design and in service to what (I believe) the game is trying to say. It's an interesting piece. And although I enjoyed very little time with this game, my thoughts wander back to it more often than a lot of games I actually did enjoy.

I can't recommend this as a game nor as a story, yet I struggle to think of what could be done differently that wouldn't weaken its impact. If you're in the mindset for a unique depressing experience that only a game can deliver, this is one that's hard to forget.

TLDR: Bottom of the barrel visuals. Okay audio. Decent attempt at a cinematic gritty presentation. The need to manage the bullet economy and engage in awkward melee against swarms kills the fun factor.

This is a tricky one to review because it relates to the question of whether artistic intent excuses otherwise bad issues. This is because most of the flaws I have with this game are obviously intentional and enhance the story that's being told.

The issue is that the story is about the worlds most godlike hitman who effortlessly dispatches armies using their own weapons. He no longer breaks a sweat, he doesn't have to even try and as such he no longer feels the thrill of the action or the passion of a job well done. The mental low has him struggling to sleep, searching for some meaning to his pointless life.

The game is split between the core actions sequences and his normal life search for meaning in the world around him. You can go to the movies, sit at a coffee shop, enjoy the company of a lady friend, and visit the museum. There's no effect to any of these things but exist to remind you of your pointless existence until you take your pills and get sleep before your next job.

The action itself is stylish and generally engaging, if a far slower paced game than you'd expect. You walk left and right, break the arms of your enemies to steal their guns, and use that weapon to take out their friends. No reloading required because you'll just be steal new weapons and mowing down your enemies. There are a few button combinations to learn, but overall its an easy to learn system that works well.

It gets a bit weird difficulty-wise because it feels random due to enemy spawns. Sometimes you'll get the weapons you need and it'll be simple while other times enemies all stop at a distance and you don't have bullets to deal. There's a definitely strategy to the game and most of the times I die it's my fault... but not always.

On multiple occasions I've had long range enemies that spawned off of the map. The AI has them stand still and fire, while I can't shoot back because they are off the map. These moments were the reason that I ended up stopping the game. They aren't frequent, but they hit hard when the overall challenge level is high.

Ultimately, this is a cool game on multiple fronts. But the story it it wants to tell is about boredom and lack of meaning... and it nails those emotions. It's well-made and one-of-a-kind but it's not really engaging in the way I could easily recommend except as a form of art.

Piss poor tutorial. And I keep dying on easy mode on the second screen. You run of bullets. "Up to shoot faster". Whatever the hell that means. All these dead bodies with their guns and you can't pick them up. You can only get another gun after break someone's arm and you might have to get a shot a couple of times from someone else before you get that gun. This and Friends of Ringo does a bad job of easing a player into the game.

i played for a short time because i was boerd and didnt really felt like i want to keep playing, all i did was to walk really slow and shoting millions of generic enemys that just sprit to get shot or shot me when im out of ammo which always was what made me die moltipul times I would like to be able to at least sprint and take my enemys gun.

Какое ужасное разочарование! И это после шедеврального Ринго! Наиграв час в эту игру Я был очень неприятно удивлён. Комментарии от других игроков-то же самое. Тут нет контента…совсем. Да, есть очень простенькая стрельба по бесконечным болванчикам от которой просто устают руки. Она может нравится в самом начале, но когда вы осознаете что этот тир так и не изменится сколько миссий не играй а в игре больше ничего кроме него и нет…
Самое ужасное-претенциозность. В игре почти что нет сюжета и депрессивная атмосфера надоедает очень быстро. Опять таки, никогда не думал что скажу это про игру от этого автора.
