Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time

Am I salty today or does SJ:BTT totally suck?
Easy combat with auto-aim, button mashing combat system that has no depth. Looks like a 7yr old can button mash their way through this game no problem. Jack barely takes any damage while getting hit 10x. Majority of the Samurai Jack fans are in their late 20's or early 30's.

No voice acting besides cut scenes. Which isn't uncommon but feels lack luster when NPC's say the same one liners every time you initiate conversation with them.

Aku appears rigid, not scary or dreadful. Not capable of being a shapeless void that could easily consume you.

Mini cut scenes don't actually align with what's happening in the game. One example. You slice an enemy in half, cut scene shows enemy body flying into a tree and knocking the tree down, cut back to gameplay and the slicing in half animation finishes with the body laying right in front of you. Seems very low effort animations.

Graphics are barely acceptable. I get you may want to preserve the classic art style, but this looks like a Wii game. Sure, it's also made for consoles, but there are plenty of games that look way better on PC compared to their console builds. This lacks environmental details, particle systems, blood or gore. Yes I know there's no gore in Samurai Jack, but when Jack slices an enemy in half, there's at least sparks, and oil... None of which shows up in this game. Just bland two halves falling to the floor.

I feel so disappointed watching the reviews today. But, like they say, if everyone around you seems like an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, maybe it's actually you. So what am I missing? Or, is everyone besides me blinded by the nostalgia of what was once a really great show?

I completely disagree with combat. I've already spent 3 hours of continued playtime and I have to make a bunch of points. Could a 7yo complete the game? Maybe, I know I was decent at gaming at 7yo so I am not assuming anything. Button mashing? No, not at all, for combos you have to make precise inputs if you want to break enemy guard, go from one point of the arena to the other and so on, especially if you don't want to get hit. Barely taking dmg? Idk what difficulty that person you saw was playing on, but I was getting my a*s kicked since the first level. I personally definitely don't want to get hit, and again, if I don't want to get hit, I can't button mash.

The repeated voice lines can get annoying I'll give you that, but there is no reason to talk to any npc more than once, maybe twice at most.

I never felt like Aku was this horrifying monstrosity, not even from the TV show, and I was little back then. If Aku could not scare me when I was a small bean, He can't do it now. And I understand that you gripe is with the 3D model, but I think he was made decent enough.

I was surprised when the animation thing happened to me for the first time at the second level's boss. I know it does not feel right but think of it this way. From what I see, this is not a high budget game, I would say it's a low budget game. This would tie in with the lack of voice acting as well. With the sheer amount of diversity when it comes to Jack's weapon arsenal, the number of custom cutscenes for each and every single boss or whatever Jack blows to smithereens would be astounding. Also, some of the enemies/bosses need to die in a certain way for what follows to make sense. You can't really cut someone in half with an arrow can you?

When it comes to graphics I have always thought that people just want more, without stopping to look at the game for what it is. The combat is fantastic and you can feel the impact. Bosses are diverse and you require different tactics to overcome them. As I said, I don't think this is a high budget game, and I would take good gameplay and decent graphics over bad gameplay and good graphics.

What I told you is from my 3 hours experience. Is the game perfect? No, but what game is? I hope I game you some insight into it whether you'll try it or not. Just don't understand that "button mash, barely take dmg" talk when I'm sitting here sweating to not get hit once while doing combos over combos with the fluidity of a monkey to keep my enemies in the air for maximum dmg. xD

Eh, to be honest it looks and feels like just an enhanced expansion of the old PS2 game. At the end of the day it's budget title which is a shame but then again cartoon network hasn't been known to put out quality games.

I believe that's what reviewers are for. I guess I'll have to wait for a video from someone who isn't a complete yes man.

It was never supposed to be a hard or dark souls type of game. If anything they made it for younger audiences.

/facepalm

Sure, there's likely a new generation that appreciates the SJ universe, but the real fans are all adults by now.

It's hard as ♥♥♥♥ on hard mode. You're under constant enemy fire and being grabbed all the time like it's Ninja Gaiden 2

Are you playing on the Hardest Difficulty? I went in on the Hardest Difficulty and you get completely destroyed if you don't perfectly counter and dodge.

YOU DON'T EVEN OWN THE GAME. Seriously what kind of post is this???

Combat looked pretty dull in the gameplay trailer I watch. It's why I'm putting this on my wishlist waiting for a sale. If it drops to 20 dollars at one point, I'll give it a try, not before that.

Graphics and character design looked superb from the videos I watched, it's just the combat that didn't look that good for me.

i think when come to the combat . if you play on higher difficulty . the game put different enemies and it will to get harder but i think the worst when you get stagger and sometime it hard to tell when enemy will attack you also i wish when enemy shoot you from behind there is an indicator that tell you that they about to shoot you .

i do like the graphics of the game but i think AKU should be less reflective and be made black matter like the show . the combat need more improvement . i feel the camera is zoom in too much what make more enemy hit you when you don't see them .they could fix this by zooming out and also allowing you to block mid animation what greatlly improve the flow of the game .

if they improve the combat . this game will be much much better . but i do think what we got here is not bad or button mashing . but using other skill seem not that useful when your combo get breaked by enemy attack you didn't see or someone shot you . i think having more clear feedback like small flash before the enemy attack . that tell you if you can block the attack or need to dodge will be useful .

It's the best ninja gaiden game you can hope to get released in the year 2020.

Visuals and style don't appeal to me and I never watched the cartoon. I'm here for the combat and it's pretty good for a game made on a tight budget. You can feel ninja gaiden is there at its core. Definitely way more to it than button mashing, you shouldn't draw hasty conclusions from youtube videos.

Alright. Thanks everyone for trying to help. I'm not even gonna wait for a sale. I've been looking forward to this game for quite some time, if I hate it nbd, Steam accepts returns.

Thanks!

Well, my assumptions were right. This game is trash. Literally a mobile game with a near 1:1 port to PC. I'd be OK with the state of this game if they were asking $5... But this is seriously awful.

Totally cool if you guys love is so much. No big deal. Different people have different standards.

I would rather spend $40 on buying all the DVD's or Blu-Ray's. To me, rewatching the entire show for the 20th time would be WAY more enjoyable. Plus, that experience would last WAY longer than 4-5 hours....

F*** off with these trash games, Soleil Ltd.
