In other words, when I know the game is going to start a scripted event, I finish every other action and only do one thing at a time. Works for me.
For me looking at the map will remove the Awareness level. As in parts of it will disappear, almost similarly like fading into the background, so becomse useless until i restart the game or start a new mission, or change "map" with elevator, or rest.
Regarding the ARC bug, there is one bug, that usually is actually player triggered and can be easily replicated. If your squad is at a place where the ARC will park, being in a certain distance of the ARC will make your unit unable to move. They get stuck because of the ARC, so you cannot extract, you cannot get rid of the civilian anything. So what i can suggest if this is the case for you, to call the arc and stay CLEAR of the way. As in if there is a building nearby enter it, if there are containers you can go behind, do it. Keep a wide area clear from the "parking" ARC. As during the parking it may go very close to your squad, and if it gets into contact (hit box, or whatever they use here) with one of your units your whole squad will get stuck.
(Interestingly this does not seem to be an issue when you are walking between places and the ARC is coming up, it will stop behind your folks saying no clear path. But during parking it is a very common issue.)
Thats not the experience i had but its good to know there is another bug
