Aliens nests

Is it possible to destroy aliens nests ? (Aliens spawn points).
I have noticed that these points are circled in red during onslaughts…

I don't think the nests can be destroyed, but the nest that is flashing is where the onslaught will come from. I normally drop off a mine near the nest on the way past and managed to stop an onslaught once when it exploded as they emerged.

There is another thing unclear to me…
Is it possible to destroy xeno eggs without awaking the hive?
I mean without using sniper shots… with the grenade launcher for example…

You can burn them with the flame thrower and it won't awake the hive. If you use the grenade launcher you should cover all eggs with that shot. If there aren't drones nearby, you won't start a hunt. But using grenades is still somewhat risky.
