Don't place all your sentry guns during a certain moment in the campaign
There'll be a point where you are in a large room that contains a lot of boxes, including 2 sentries, and where your objective will be to pick up a datapad.

I thought i was smart, placing all 4 of my sentries that i brought along plus the two i found in the room.
Turns out, you will not get a opportunity to pick them back up.

That is all. Carry on Marines.

You might be able to just go back to that place on another operation and pick up the turrets you couldn't carry with you last time.

Thanks for the warning

Possibly, but it's a pain in the behind to go all the way back. Way too much backtracking for Side objectives/materials already.

Same thing happened to me. Two missions later, still cant go back there, and it looks like i never will. You can go back to the map, but the elevator is blocked off.
This was a cheap shot, I lost 7 turrets there.
The 4 I had, 1 I picked up in the underground, and the 2 the OP mentions in the same room.

It is okay you always find more of them anyway. You can still try to pick them up before the ending though, You have a bit of time to do so before the auto extract.

you can also use 20 supplies to make more if needed.

Is that mission doable without putting down sentries?

Hi everyone,

We've also seen this frustrating moment of the Refinery mission.

We're working on something to automatically recover the sentries and unconscious marines during this sequence, as you are not warned of the end of the mission.

Sorry for this harsh moment.

Gosh darn, did not expect a developer response on one of my threads.
That's very nice to hear. The problem with unconscious marines didn't even occur to me and i can see that being far more annoying, altough i am wondering how it's possible to lose people at that part when you have a wall of cannons lined up.

Just finished the mission. Lost 6 (4+2) sentries there. Could have used them in the next mission…

You have time to pick up the sentries if you do it RIGHT when the last alien dies. You got the APC proving cover too so you don't need to even wait until the last one is dead

It took me the better part of an hour twiddling my thumbs waiting for command points to regenerate, but parked all my guns in the NE corner, upgrading one for suppression fire, then I laid out a grid of about 60 mines, and laid down an incinerator shield in front of my corner. The bugs never even got close to me (Hard difficulty), it was pretty spectacular. I was even able to pick up a couple of guns before the cut scene and forced evac.

I took a screenshot of my mine layout but I can't seem to post it here.

As for whether you can do it without the guns, using my method of an hour's worth of minelaying, yes, although I strongly suggest you use at least 2 or 3, preferably one being set to suppression (Gives like a 75 degree arc for the suppression effect - using a marine only gives you maybe 20 degrees). That way you can leave with 3 or 4 guns. The next mission is the Otago defence, and having a few sentries is very useful there.

By the way, you can use all your guns in the first wave, but after Marlow starts yapping is when you can pick up a couple of guns. The cut scene happens pretty soon after the 2nd wave starts.

There are other occasions where you don't always lose guns but they become unavailable. One mission had me put a sentry just outside a room and then the room locked for a fight and the sentry outside was damaged. I could retrieve it later though. After these events I'm reluctant to prepare before story events, as it could screw me.

There's also all the xeno samples on the ground, including a Crusher, which we have no chance of getting.. Seems a bit unfair.
